Annie, I haven't seen Indian Pipes in the woods in years. They're so interesting.

Annie, I would so love to go romping in the woods like I was in my youth finding those Indian Pipes. We kids were so fascinated with them. An older boy scout told us that they would poison us if touched. We took the dare and lived to tell about it.

The Great Golden Digger Wasp on the Butterfly Weed is back this year. Quite an interesting character this gardeners friend is.

Apparently the indian pipes are edible if you cook them first...supposed to taste like asparagas...but I'm not game to try it! But they are so interesting looking, being stark white.

Schoolhouse and Alisande, you both are so, so right!!! That picture is from last year and now that you said that, I remember that I did have some dahlias last year. So sorry for the misidentification. :) Thanks for the correction. I should get some more for this year because they were really pretty and lasted all summer, as I recall, which we all know is suspect.
