Comments (2)Well bottom line is that we did not pay 100% and the contractor as well his supplier are in agreement that the company S&R window did shotty work at best and are going to take the windows back once our contractor removes them. We ordered new windows from our typical supplier and they are scheduled to be installed next week. Sad thing though is that this forum used to be a buzz with all sorts of help and advice. Comments (32)Ok... how's this? Trying to avoid splitting up the dishwashers. This gives a dedicated cleanup area and dedicated prep area Dishwashers flank the cleanup sink which is a nice looking apron front (36" Kohler cast iron is what I was planning) which is, more or less, centered on the wall. 24" upper cabinets over one dishwasher hold dishes, 24" upper cabinets over the other hold glasses. There's 36" of space over the sink for either bridging shelves or cabinets that would be more raised off the counters framing the sink. These will stick out 12" off the wall, whereas there is only about half that gap between window and wall. There would be 2'6" from the upper cabinet to the window wall. Seems like that would be okay and not look too weird? Trash/recycle area stays in island and is 15-18" deep x 22-24" wide, there is 12" or so of width left over for something. 36" wide drawer over top. The second dishwasher is kind of close to the range, by my measurements the range sticks out 12" due to the bumpout and there is 6" of unused space left on the wall, so tight but not terribly difficult to load the 2nd dishwasher I think. Silverware can be in a 24" drawer next to the corner. Access to this drawer and the second dishwasher at the same time is a problem. The blind corner will require a pullout that allows for a drawer over top or could just be closed off completely as dead space. Laundry and prep share a 36" cabinet sink (some sort of undermount stainless vs a twin for the other sink?) Dog food gets stored underneath, dog bowls in the toe kick (or could put them in the cabinet next to washer and dryer) Hanging/drying bar stays and ties into a single cabinet 15" deep by 27-30" wide upper cabinet. Space over second sink is open? Will this look ok? Remaining cabinets (~68") between sink and laundry cabinet can store the small appliances, gadgets, platters, etc. Problems I have concerns about Functional *The blind corner with the dishwasher is tight, limits access to the silverware drawer and dishwasher at the same time, and requires either some blind corner pullout contraption or losing the corner outright. I don't like giving up storage, but I think I have enough already its not tragic? Would a drawer dishwasher help here? *are two 24" upper cabinets enough for everyday dishes and glasses? I measured my dishes and think it would be fine. Cosmetic * sink isn't under a window and one sink is right next to a window, i guess this is ok? * have to put in two areas of upper cabinets that I'm concerned will look odd (have had trouble finding example pics of a similar setup). i had also gotten a little excited about having minimal uppers....See MoreHelp! Perhaps Mr Newbie has a family to put through college and his money is better spent there than on the expense of overly tall ceilings, doors, and windows. Comments (24)As RappArchitecture mentioned, deciding on the sink/DW and Washer/Dryer locations without looking at the Kitchen layout as a whole severely limits your options. If you are willing to consider other options, here are three. A couple of important notes: (1) As you know, you are severely limited in usable storage. I understand you do not want to remove the wall with the built-in. Have you considered, instead, removing the 17" x 5" wall and the 28.5" wall and extending the 42.25" wall another 31.2"? This would give you much more usable space. It keeps the Linen Closet but opens up the Kitchen space. from your drawing it appears that space is a hall that leads to the Bedrooms & Bathroom. If your drawing is accurate, you should be able to make these changes without adversely impacting the overall flow. From this: To this: (2) The washer & dryer -- probably the biggest obstacle to a decent layout. The first two only work if you can find another place for the washer & dryer -- maybe in the Bedroom/Bathroom part of the home (which makes the most sense in general since the vast majority of laundry comes from and returns to the Bedrooms). We'd have to see a full-floor layout to see if there's another place for them. [Ideally, the dryer should be on an exterior wall for exterior venting. My mother has a "ventless" dryer and it takes forever for even small loads of clothing to dry! And, she has to empty a reservoir each time (the reservoir is where the moisture is deposited once it's removed from the clothes).] By moving the W/D elsewhere, you gain a lot of storage space! . Yes, you should be able to install 10, see if you like it, and if you don't, revert to your previous Windows version.
This is what that option looked like for me.
Note that you only have a month though, after a month the option to "Go back to ..." goes
away.Personally, I'd probably create a system image first. Just in case the upgrade somehow went so wrong that the machine would no longer boot. Probably not too likely but it's cheap peace of mind. Also, with a system image I could take more than a month to conclude Windows 10 isn't for me (or my machine) and still be able to revert. ;-)
