I think they both work overall, but there are issues with both. To me,the first room works pretty well at first glance. But when you take a longer look, I think there are a couple of issues. It looks like a room that a 'real person' decorated, using things they had in part. The chair shape is great, but the fabric on the chair is wrong for the room. Not because of the print, but because it is done in 'dirty' colors (and actually, looks like an old chair),a fact the pillows on it highlight. Were the chair done in a white duck or a lime and turquoise stripe, it would be fine. The rug is again a 'dirty' color, more olive; a plain cream or white rug, or a colorful large scale modern print, would do more for the space. I love the READ on the wall, because I believe the framed pieces are favorite books (one is Eric Carle's "The very busy spider"). But I guess that to me would be better on another wall, near a reading chair or beanbag in a kid's room, and a bookshelf. Then again, if the child is a voracious reader, nothing wrong with celebrating that fact! The second room is fine, except for the fact that all the color weight is low in the space, and the lampshade disappears against the wall and looks awkward with the little built-in above. Instead of the lamp on the night stand, I would have hung reading lights of some kind centered above each headboard, done in brass (for the nautical feel) with lampshades in a print with deep blue (no stripes to compete with the beadboard) or a solid dark blue. It also looks like the rug is running in the wrong direction for the pattern. I would have also preferred to mix up the decorative pillows on each bed, so they weren't matching but complimentary, but that is not a big deal.

Thanks for your reply Dana! Things are looking up since I last posted. My husband brought home boxes for his son to start packing, which he has started doing. I did a little investigating of my own. I checked the apartments website and found that there were apartments available for 6/8, which is where he probably got the date from. The other day when stepson left for work, I checked his room and found the filled out application, and 2 check receipts for checks written out to the apartment complex. I hated to snoop, but felt I had a right to know what was going on considering his track record. It looks like he is moving out on 6/8. He asked if my husband would be available to help him that day since my husband has a pickup truck. He also asked his older brother and a friend to help him. His brother confirmed that to my husband. Things are looking good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The State of California has 19 basic insurance plans from which to choose for active employees and retirees who are not yet on Medicare, and 9 supplemental plans (all of which include prescription drug coverage) from which to choose for retirees who are on Medicare. Different plans have different drug coverage. So, yeah, there is some parsing to do. The state contributes $1,343 monthly towards our health care premiums, and different plans have different premium amounts. We have the plan with the highest premium, so I know we're lucky that the state's contribution covers it as well as the Medicare premiums. I do know that Medicare uses "letter designations" for the various supplemental plans -- you mentioned you have the high-deductible Plan F. I know that all insurance companies who offer, for example, a Plan C must cover everything that all other companies' Plan C covers, but each company can set their own premium rates. The plans that California state retirees have from which to choose do not show any letter designation whatsoever. You have to read the Evidence of Coverage booklets (available online) to determine if a plan is right for you or not. In that respect, we have more parsing to do than you. (And, yes, I did speak to the folks who are in the health insurance section at the California Public Employee Retirement System [CalPERS], and they have no idea what plan letter designations the various supplemental plans would have.) From my review of the various supplemental plans offered by the state, I know that the plan we have falls into the Plan F category.
