Painted Wallpaper Backsplash
Comments (7)No, no glue. Just thumbtacks. I was able to cut the lengths of paper, lay them out on the table and counter to paint, then glaze, then cut almost exactly to fit. It went up really really really easy. It took me less than two hours to hang it. Thumbtacks work really good with something pretty "busy". Previously I had tacked up some fabric I found at walmart. It was a print of some multi-colored little tiles. I was able to use those primary colored thumbtacks and no one ever knew til I told them. It's works for me, but I'm far from a perfectionist too,, lol....See Morewallpaper border on top of wallpaper border?
Comments (3)Mix vinegar into water at a ratio of 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water. I am in the process of removing the backing now from our 20 year old wallpaper. First time I have ever done it. The wallpaper came off easily with this solution, in some spots the backing came with it, in other areas it didn't. I am using a plastic spatula to gently scrape the backing paper off the drywall. We were told by a lady at Lowes who had hung wallpaper as a job for years that you can put new border over old (and I am assuming just over the paper backing if you get one that is thick and textured that it won't show through. We will be trying that in our breakfast area where we just had border. Again the paper came off easily but the backing won't budge. My new border is wider and thicker so we think we will be okay. Hope yours turns out okay....See MoreFaux brick wallpaper/other trendy wallpaper
Comments (4)"unpasted, washable, strippable vinyl wall paper" means that it is vinyl wallpaper without paste applied on the back by the manufacturer. So you will need to apply the paste yourself, instead of the somewhat easier application process of submerging in water to activate the pre-applied paste....See Morewallpaper over lead paint; how to remove the wallpaper??
Comments (6)It depends a lot how the paper was put on and what kind of adhesion was used how hard you will work to get it off. When you wet it and warm it you want to get it to the point where the paper lifts right off. The issue after that will be the remaining glue. This is where it can get really hard to completely get the glue off to the point where you can paint it without disturbing the lead paint. Also, one thing you may discover is that you do not have a fine finish that will look good painted on the plaster underneath, and that there is in fact no paint at all of any kind in some rooms. They will need a new skim coat anyway. It then becomes: do you have enough glue off to adhere a skim coat? Whatever you do, just be careful. People get all bent out of shape about asbestos and mold but neither of those are really much of a danger in an acute exposure situation, but "lead stupid" is forever . It dissolves in water, it can get dispersed in the air, etc. and if you get it all over the place it can get VERY expensive and hard to clean it out of the house afterward....See Morewhitemagnolias012
