Deep-South gardeners, here's why you can't plant seeds now
Comments (1)I live in the South too and am looking for bunching onion plants. I can't seem to find any. (Dixondale doesn't have that kind.) I may give the supermarket green onions a try to see what I get from them....See MoreFollow up to WHY I didn't want kids at our party.
Comments (26)Ultimately this is to me the new "motherhood" where children are cosseted and protected ("I can't hang a picture on the wall next to the crib because it might fall on the baby" or buy ahouse with a swmming pool cause the child might drown) in ways that are beyond bordering on the absurd. We had a friend who married one of the most fun, charismatic and bright women I have ever met. Then she had a child. She brought the child to our adult only party and was so absorbed in this kid that her entire personality had been erased. It was the most tragic thing for her husband who eventually left her. I am not fond of today's toddlers because they are raised with no manners. You might say that toddlers are too young to have manners, but my children did not bang on furniture, stick their hands into food, or run wild through the rooms. We did not know to childproof and our kids knew to stay out of certain places. We didn't play with them 12 hours a day and they were left to their own devices while chores, personal time and other things were done. That resulted in children who were curious, had an imagination, weren't glued to the TV and knew how to play. And be by themselves and enjoy it. How novel! And the same with my friend's children. This is new phenomenon. We won't invite people with kids any more. The kids are little monsters and I don't need that disruption in my life....See MoreLR: Here's Where I'm At....
Comments (16)Okay, I made some of the suggested changes: Per Les: Drop picture (love that idea - Thanks!) Before: After (I'm even contemplating lower than this & do you think I should add another pic above it - maybe smaller in scale?) I also want to put a seashell in each of the little openings . DH is also replacing the worn felt w/ a leather inlay: Per Mlraff53 & some others: Lamp on top of the desk or a smaller one: I did look at some smaller ones while at Marshalls today. I will check out Lowes & Home Goods next time I'm there. If I put the lamp on top it becomes too tall & not cozy anymore. I really need a fair amt. of light in this corner as it is the only light on that side of the rm. W/ the other big lamps on the opposite side I need to balance it out. Sue: the shades on the other lamps are just barely off-white. YaYa & other's: White throws: I too think that the 2 white throws looks staged as I look at the pics. Before: So I trolled through my house & I found this throw for Fall: And I still like the idea of adding white during Spring & summer so I thought 1 white one on the sofa & I found this B&W paisley one to put in the rm. also. My family always cover up w/ throws yr. round so they are always around. Nothing that nds. dry cleaned since they get so much use w/ us, kids & pets. After: My sister found some gorgeous gray & white fleece fabric that she is making Euro Sham covers for for me. We use Euro pillows on the flr for the kids & pets. W/ the addition of purple flowers I think it will look crisp. The ottoman is actually my coffee table measuring in at a whopping 42"! I got it when our LR was in another part of the house & I do love it. I suggested to DH once about storing it away & using an old blanket chest I have & he said not a chance. Every inch of the surface is usually covered w/ kids books while they are awake but it all gets put away before bed & grown up stuff comes out (I love trays!). Speaking of which: Sue: somewhere I have a dark tray that I've used in the past (see pic of trunk coffee table). Do you think an arrangement such as this tray would look better? My kids dinged up the tray & I think DH has it at work to refinish it. I'd really like to find a round tray though. Teacats - you must know me so well by this time as I always switch out accessories in Spring & Fall! And what a good suggestion about switching it out in the Fall for the trunk! DH may agree to that. I used to always have it decorated but since swapping rms. I've just never really gotten around to accessorizing it again. Prairiegirlz - too funny about the throws & pets - you're right! Oldhometara - glad I could help you pic a color for your HW! Thank you all for your helpful comments & suggestions - I'm printing it out!...See MoreWhy do you come here?
Comments (37)So many comments I could also easily echo. I can remember the decor in houses I visited since I was 3 years old and was especially fascinated with antique decor, altho not my parents MCM stuff. I can completely lose track of time when looking at house plans or home decor. IRL I find it difficult, really impossible, not to peek thru windows when walking down a city street. So many things, even non-decor, inspire ideas for decorating my home. Jterrilynn - stuck? Not sure I understand the concept as it pertains to home decor. LOL There have been times I have been dissatisfied with some aspect of a room, however it's not something that IMO can be solved for me by anyone else thru photos posted online. Truth be told I really don't like 'managing' threads so seldom start one as I'd then have to keep checking back on it! I also know I don't have the same drive for 'perfection' that many seem to and like to live with some choices for awhile even if I am almost certain I will eventually change them. My house evolves constantly and I never consider a room 'done' even tho they all look as if they are to everyone else. I almost never shop for a particular thing but prefer to buy as I see things I like and allow them to work. Everything that I love will find it's best place eventually. I have closets full of (mostly) pre-owned home decor accessories I can pull out to change my decor. I am still in the process of trying to edit this collection to make space for newer treasures I will enjoy buying. I much prefer unique accessories and seldom find these in big box stores. So I guess I'm not the typical forum member altho I see there are a few others who don't feel the need to ask for advice either. Ratherbesewing - I haven't yet found any home dec sites that are as active as this one. However there are some that occasionally provide inspiration and pics: "HGTV forums" "House & Home" "Home Talk" "Old House Web pictures - so many lovely period homes here" One of my fav non-forum, non-blog places online to spend time looking at pretty pics is "Houzz"...See MoreOakley
