I'm So Frustrated!
Comments (15)I think maybe I'm being a little unfair to Lanny, but he made me mad. I think he was overwhelmed by email, and was getting aggravated. I think he underestimated my knowledge and dismissed me as one of these bleeding heart emotional types who was just all worked up about her little baby hummingbirds--not that there's anything really wrong with that, it's just not an accurate image of me and he wasn't answering my question. My question to him concerned whether he had any way of following up on those early map points that were in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. He gave me a sort of stock general answer, and was, at best, a little patronizing, and also at the same time came off sounding clinical and heartless. I called him on it and told him I wasn't an overly sentimental sort, but I was offended by his tone. I told him I was interested in the fate of those birds for both emotional AND scientific reasons. I reminded him that he could ill afford to come off sounding that way, given that a lot of the people who send those reports are probably very soft-hearted non-scientific types. I knew they wouldn't want to be lectured as I was with statements like, "don't feel sorry for birds that have an untenable plan." Or "Whatever happens to an individual bird is of no great consequence to the species." It could be argued that his points were valid, it's just that I thought they were presented in a needlessly cold way. I had asked about THOSE PARTICULAR BIRDS, and if anyone was still seeing them. Not only did he not know, (which isn't necessarily a problem) but he didn't seem to care at all or view it as a valid or interesting question. That bugged me. I knew ruby-throats weren't going to go extinct, I was just feeling a little bad for those early ones (excuse me for having an emotional side!) and wondering if there had been any followup on their well-being from the people who made the original reports. All that aside, I was so pleased to read the excerpt from his website that lucygreenthumb reported. In it, he took a much more pleasant and caring tone, and addressed many of the issues that were related to my question. Although my specific question about the fate of those individual birds is still unanswered, (and perhaps unanswerable) I feel a lot better about Lanny from that post. Although our emails to each other were snippy, maybe he heard what I had to say and understood that it was an important issue for me and many others. Still, I wish he were able to occasionally follow up on some of those reports in response to specific questions, especially questions like this of general interest to many. Perhaps he just doesn't have enough time. Still, I'm very pleased that he was responsive enough to put down some useful general information about hummingbirds and the recent cold snap....See MoreFeedback on Kohler Karbon faucet
Comments (23)Has anyone recently called Kohler about the flow issue. We just installed the Karbon faucet and as expected the flow was much lower than I was used to. I called Kohler and asked for the higher flow valve. The only option the service rep offered was to buy a high flow head for $82 (she did offer 25% off). I have already taken the head apart, so I suspect I just need the plastic restrictor. I expected to need to get the high flow restrictor from Kohler when we decided on this faucet, but in all the threads I have never seen anyone mention paying for an $82 part. Most people are so happy with Kohler service for sending them the part complimentary. Did I just get a bad draw on the service rep lottery? Is there a secret password I should mention that gets me the part we need, or do I just need to ask pretty please and they send it free. Anyone who got the upgrade have any ideas?...See MoreKohler Karbon Kitchen Faucet
Comments (11)French - I happen to disagree with you on the Karbon. Faulty install is not the manufacturer's fault. I think the finish looks very industrial in the home environment and not cheap at all. This is not the carbon fibre "look" that is slaped on many of today's cars and sporting goods. The one we used had a bit of a matt finish and once you feel it you can tell it's not cheap. The stiffness will wear off after a bit of use, it is a bit anoying out of the box. The drawbacks I see are: the spray pattern is very narrow. To turn off the sprayer requires one to turn off the faucet to re-set. There is no option switch from flow to spray then back again on the spout itself. I concur with erik - the KWC is a good alternative. It's flash and doesn't scream I'm a gorilla, look at me....See MoreKohler Karbon's function, but not its look
Comments (7)KitchenDetective, I can't say I LOVE the look of that faucet, but i like it better than the Karbon -- yours looks kind of "neutral" rather than ultra-modern. CRL -- yeah, you're in a rougher spot since you're working with "funky cabinets". I'm talking about a new build, so at least I do have a straight run of cabinets and more choices. TexasPenny, I attempted to see one in person today, but Home Depot doesn't carry it. I'm going to do some looking around at high-end places and see if I can find one to see. But, yeah, I can spot yours in the picture right away. The positive is that it ties into your stainless steel appliances. I'd be interested in hearing whether you're satisfied with your range -- I'm considering something in that genre, and it's not something that's discussed around here often. BBTrix, I've seen the video too, and I totally agree that the function is amazing! No, I wouldn't buy the knock-off; my concerns aren't about cost, though the price is substantial! Thanks for your feedback. I'm thinking that the ultimate answer to my question is, "No, no similar product is available with a less cutting-edge look." Bummer 'cause I do want this product....See MorePaul
