My Home Tour competition has been revealed :)
Comments (27)I just got home from junior high camp and the tour had about 1 hr left. I sat upstairs and listened which was pretty interesting LOL one guy was just ripping on the backsplash over and over - honestly it was pretty comical becuase everyone else just loved it. (he didn't like that it was rough in texture) I didn't win any of the awards - the contractor said house #1 on the tour won almost all the awards and he thought house #12 won one award. However he did say that a lot of people were saying they liked ours the best. Also I wouldn't doubt it if #1 was 2x the price or more of our remodel (drool, look at the bathroom for house 1 - I think thats bigger than my bedroom!) Anyway I am happy to report that nothing was broken or stolen (that I have seen so far) which was my main concern. According to the contractor the number 1 thing people liked (or at least commented on) was the cork and number 2 was the backsplash. Strange but in the hour I was upstairs I only heard one comment on the granite....See MoreVanity top to go with Crema Marfil bathroom?
Comments (10)We used the Crema Marfil for the backsplashes in my kitchen reno and love the beauty of it. Our cabinets are all a dark brownish cherry and we went with Silestone counters in "Dark Canyon". It's a mixture of browns, cream and black and we love it. My good friend used a gorgeous, rather plain black marble for her counters. While they look stunning, they're also a HUGE PIA to keep looking nice, as they show every last little water spot and fleck of dust! The color of your counters will set the tone for your bathroom. If you use a black, I think you'll need to incorporate that into the accessories of your bathroom to help balance the dark and light . . . which would look gorgeous, if that's a look you'd like. Texashottie's idea to use the Crema Marfil on the counters and paint (or stain) the vanity itself is another good idea. I think, if this is a home you plan on being in for a while, you need to decide which direction you want the accessories to go and then pick your counter color. The Crema would give you more options, but either would look great, I think....See MoreOT Need help asap - Is marble a bad choice for shower seat top?
Comments (4)The seat is already there, it is what Gina described, framed and waterproofed, not sure about "filled". The whole shower is already tiled, just missing the seat top. I've seen pictures with stone seats too, so never thought it could become such an issue. And it is only a bathroom, not even a kitchen yet :)...See MoreMarble bathroom question?
Comments (20)sokool, we did a major gut/remodel of our master bath and also took out a tub and toilet, that worked just fine, but were the wrong color, so I know the feelings that go with taking out something just for the looks. Quote: "I would like to keep the tub because it is a perfectly good tub that we never use. It seems wasteful, expensive and unnecessary to change it." Answer: Well, your tub tile looks just fine too, if you are going to use that reasoning, then no need to remodel at all! Quote: "But is it really that important for the tile to blend with the tub" Answer: YES! Even your old tile looks a bit pinkish next to your cream/yellow tub. You can't just ignore such a big element (elephant) in the room. Looking more closely at the photo, the tile all the way to the right, that is cut off by the edge of the photo, seems to have a similar cream that matches the tub. If you are more drawn to the marble-look tiles then you have to get a white tub....See Moretorreykm
