Can I put soil on top of mulch and plant?
Comments (3)Might depend on the mulch. A high carbon mulch like wood chips or shredded hardwoods and the like are great above ground, but underground they may cause nitrogen to be bound up for a time while it decomposes. Keep an eye on what you plant and if starts looking chlorotic you may want to add some N. tj...See MoreCan I put Hydraflex right on top of greenboard?
Comments (5)Hi The least you should do in your case , is use liquid Waterproofing Membrane ( look at your local flooring supply store) it is kind of heavy and shipping cost will be too high, What I would recommend you to do is to mix a scup of no 20 or 30 sand with a 2 gallon of the liquid Waterproofing Membrane, it should give you great protection and easy to apply tile on. A product I am familiar and recommend is pro red by c-cure ( link to c-cure pro red attach) I would not recommend sheet membrane, you will need to know how to use it in/out side corners and overlapping and making sure it seal well., a risky way for leaks. The liquid apply same as you paint 2 heavy coat will do the job. Never heard of Hydraflex, I will check them out Here is a link that might be useful: C-Cure pro red...See MoreWhat kind of door should I put at the top of the stairs?
Comments (4)French doors would be fine as long as they did not open over the stairway and were not in the way when open. What you are trying to prevent is heat rising by convection to the upper floor so all that is needed are doors or heavy curtains that will prevent excessive air flow. The rate of heat transfer is proportional to the temperature difference so the heat that is transferred through the doors would be minor unless the upper floor will be below freezing or leaks air a lot....See MoreCan I put granite on top of the kitchen island made of ikea cabinets?
Comments (26)In most production cabinets, the back is nothing more than to close the cabinet box. A hanging rail is what will support and hold the cabinet to the wall. Perfect example is of Joe's picture, where you see the solid wood at the back of the cabinet, that he's screwed to the plywood. That cabinet doesn't have a back, just a hanging rail, and it's obviously not going anywhere. Now, whenever I do an island, I always try to use at least a 1/2" plywood panel across the back of the cabinets, then a finish panel or wainscoting. I don't do a whole lot of frameless cabinets, but I do the same on them. This adds to the rigidity of the cabinet boxes, as well as giving the finish panel something to nail onto, anywhere I want to attach it. Plus, people won't put their foot through the panel. It also makes it easy to attach corbels. If you have the room, build a knee wall behind the cabinets. Now you can attach the cabinets to a wall. Then either drywall and paint, or use finish panels to cover the knee wall....See MoreAnnie Deighnaugh
