I'm a night owl so seldom see a sunrise. I agree about a full moon rising over the water, which I am lucky to see fairly frequently.

My favorite thing about sunrise is that I've lived to see another day!

I agree with blfenton. I love sunrise. So much promise. Sunsets are beautiful but make me sad for some reason. I don't like night time.

Since i rarely see a sunrise, i have to go with sunset. Especially the ones with vibrant colors.

Sunrises automatically have a negative connotation for me since the only time I see them is when I have to be awake far too early to do something I dislike.

I'll take the cotton candy sunsets any day!

Whichever one I see, and we have some awesome skies in Kansas. I've been up and busy 3-hours before sunrise and try to get my workout, watering and garden/yard work done long before the sun comes up around 6 a.m. this time of the year, and we're in bed by 9 p.m. which is about the same time the sun goes down.

I love the lowering angle of the sun in late afternoon. Yes, it can be a melancholy time, and "Deep Purple" is one of my favorite songs. However, if your life is going well, there's contentment at the end of the day. I'll choose sunset.

I guess sunrise is 'a promise', and sunset may be a promise fulfilled.

I don't see either. We have too many pine trees blocking the rise and setting of the sun.

Because of the way our house sits, surrounded by hills, we don't see either of them. Therefore, whenever we do see one, if we are out and about, it is treasured. Sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico on our beach vacations were amazing. It was always the perfect end to a perfect day.

Sunrise! Cool, peaceful, quiet. If early enough, I can see a constellation. No one talking, peaceful world for the moment. Little bit of orange coming up over the houses in the east.

I love them both, but sunsets are usually more gloriously coloured while sunrises have that pearly essence of early light.

Sunsets for a couple reasons,the main one being i am not a morning person,and 2 i live along the coast and the sunsets are absolutely gorgeous..

Depends on where I am, when driving through New Mexico, I experienced sunrises that were breath taking, but also lived near the beach where the sunsets were equally as beautiful.. I also love a sunset when the weather starts too cool after a hot day, or sunrise to a crisp spring morning.

While both are beautiful and have a lot of similarities, I think sunsets are more dramatic because as they go on, the colors deepen into more saturated hues. Sunrises fade to light.

We have some stunning sunrises here, with incredible colors. Breathtaking pinks, yellows, and oranges blazing in a still purple night sky.

I love both, but treasure sunrise because I see those rarely.

There are some folks who say that Spring is the preferred season due to the newness, the reawakening, etc. Some might compare that to sunrise.

Having a choice, since I am a serious morning person, it would be sunrise in the desert, purple mountains and a new day.

Ooooh, that's a big debate here on our lake with our friends! We live on the west side of the lake and enjoy beautiful sun rises (of course, our friends tell us we are never awake to see them!).

Our friends on the other hand live on the east side of the lake and they say they get to see spectacular sunsets! We, of course, say "Yeah right" the sun is burning your eyes out and you can't see your TV's because of the light!

Now, we live on the north end of the lake, the largest part and they all live on the south, smaller end. all of us complain how "our" water is draining to the other end.

Hard to choose...I love both, I guess. We live in a crowded urban city but have the luxury of a 180-degree unobstructed east-facing view of the hills (we're halfway up and across a vale).

Since I get up early by nature I see beautiful sunrises. At night when I'm making dinner or cleaning up afterwards, I see amazing moonrises as well as hills and sky during brilliant sunsets. We've seen eclipses and the rare "red moons". truly stunning.

The photo is neither a sunset nor sunrise but taken after a storm facing due south...but it looked just like the sun was setting there.
