Appliance Choices? Bosch, Electrolux, Miele
Comments (9)I would stay clear ofElectrolux refrigerators. I was told that Electrolux products were good quality. How far from the truth! Mine (E23CS75DSS, side-by-side, counterdepth) has been a major disappointment. Many of my problems started right away. * The seal on the freezer must not be tight, because shortly after I bought it a had a pound of dead ants on the bottom shelf of the freezer. * It is very loud and runs almost constantly. My 30 year old GE was less noisy. * The coating, that is supposed to make the stainless steel smudge-proof works very well, but shortly after we bought it it started to bubble up. *The doors are not aligned. One is higher than the other and sticks further out. * It is supposed to a counter depth. That is absolutely not true. When the doors are opened all the way they will hit the edge of your counter top. * The doors are supposed to have a mechanism that prevents them from flying open past a 40 degree angle, unless you want them too. That "stop" does not work anymore. Now we have to hold the door in a position that will keep it from hitting the counter top. * By year two some sticky brown fluid had leaked out of the bottom right door hinge, causing it too creak very loudly when being opened. I get sick to my stomach when I think that I paid over $2000 for this. It is not worth more than $500. Unfortunately due to the reputation of Electrolux in Europe we did not think that we needed to buy the extended warranty....See MoreLG /electrolux Icon dishwasher
Comments (4)Thx for the reply. Looking at the electrolux icon website (http://www.electroluxicon.com/index.aspx), they have two dishwashers (one under the professional series and one under the designer series). Do you know which one you have? I am personally looking at the one under the designer series. In any case both of them are listed at 53db (the LG is listed as 52db but I have no idea is the db measurement is standard). Where did you get the 46db from? In any case, I do not care about the number as much as if it is actually quiet or not so it would be very valuable for me to know which model you have as yours appears to be very quiet. Can you by the way confirm the blue light (with the control hidden, that must be useful to have an easy way to tell that the cycle is in fact completed). Thx....See MoreBosch vs Electrolux dishwasher?
Comments (2)Thanks for the info! Do you find that your bowls and glassware fit securely in the top rack? I read some complaints that the bowls tipped over (not this model, but a different one)....See MoreMiele, Bosch, or AEG-Electrolux washer?
Comments (10)No experience with Bosch or AEG washers. I order parts (v. rarely necessary, except when I bought a second-hand one and it needed a complete overhaul) directly from Miele USA in Princeton, NJ. They are a bit snooty on the phone about talking to mere customers regardng technical matters, but if you politely persist, eventually you will get transferred to their techs who know their stuff, know the parts numbers ad are prepared to take an order over the phone with a credit card. Miele parts aren't cheap, but like the machines they are high quality (at least for my older machines (1918 and 1986, that's model numbers not manuf. years!). I am probably set for life for machines so I haven't kept up on the latest models. Miele in the US started making dumbed-down larger capacity FLs, but if I recall correctly they have reverted to the smaller, true horizontal axis Euro-style machines, perhaps similar to mine which are the real deal (though bought in the US). I found my latest one (a 1986) on Craig's list for a couple hundred bucks. It's owners didn't "get it" so the concluded the apparent small size wouldn't be satisfactory and they only used cold water (with fabric softener) so the machine got fouly stinky from biofilm. Miele washers are very sophisticated in their options, and not as useful for a family that barely sorts and just stuffs things in and dumps a lot of washing products into cold water. You don't have to make a huge deal about it, but if you take the trouble to learn how to use it, you will have a great washing tool. At least that's been my experience. Miele Canada has a better website, with better online owners' manuals than Miele USA. And you can find repair manuals and detailed parts lists from other vendors online (behind a paywall, but not expensive) for most models if you Google for them. HTH L....See MoreRuss Barnard
