Pin & Cove dovetails usually date a piece to around 1890 to 1920.

Top reminds me of eastlake.

The beautiful relief- carved crest panel is Aesthetic period. The rest of the carving and applied work is meh. They almost don't belong on the same piece.

Hmm, maybe that's why it's confusing me! The two pieces really don't go together very well. I'll have to take a closer look when I'm home to see if there are any obvious signs that they're two separate pieces.

I don't believe they were ever separate. In the world of actual furniture design and manufacture, the line between aesthetic and Eastlake or Gothic revival or Federal...etc... isn't a sharp line; elements of one period were often carried over into another.

I took a look and it does indeed look like the top and bottom always went together. The marble top is even cut and beveled to the shape of the mirror base. Kind of a weird marriage, but the mirror is awesome at least. Thanks for all the help!

The drawer joins are very time-limited - also called the "Knapp joint" for the inventor of the machine that made them. I've seen it variously dated as 1870-1910 to as tight a range as 1880-1900 ... the machines may have been hard to maintain or had some technical reason (perhaps needing thick drawer fronts and using too much wood?) for falling out of use so quickly.

I think they took an existing design for an Eastlake influenced piece and tarted it up with a panel in the new Aesthetic style. There are a lot of style hybrids because a manufacturer wouldn't want to abandon the old product line completely if they could just tack on something new.
