Today's blooms and recent flowers

I'm late to the boards this year but my daylilies seem to be somewhat earlier. I usually just scape hunt mid June. Everything is also so big! 0 losses this year.

I haven't added anything new this year, in fact I'm still thinking of downsizing my (small) collection.

First DL was a cheat scape from last year, it was very short. Then Stella and my very first seedling. Almost all of my daylilies have scapes, except some true lates like Final Touch

Let's see if I remember how to post pics here ;)

Ville de Lyon is pretty good this year

Surprise! My 2 remaining astilbes looking good and blooming! 1st is Amethyst, 2nd don't remember, planted 2 pink ones at that spot not sure which survived

And onto DLs

My very first seedling, early as always and double scaping again, I had a ffo on a last year sdlg (this x Red Friday), didn't take a pic but it looked almost exactly the same :)

So glad you like them Julia. I don't have tons of dls and have downsized quite a lot but I really have to do more. LOL! I dug about 50 out yesterday! Whew... Linda, i haven't made up my mind about her yet! She has been blooming for quite a long time and that's the first decent bloom! meanwhile kay/phal, you still have peonies to admire and sniff. Mine will be done ( dls ) when yours get going! I can't see your photo! I like Knights In White Satin a lot to Chris. It had a hard time establishing here but is going good now! Jean, Awesome Bob is finally increasing. I started with only one fan. Sometimes that's what you get from the LA.. Alexa, sometimes darla Anita has a lot of thrip damage. I sprayed so many times before buds that I'm really surprised how she's done. Rain has slowed me down with the spraying so I have some damage now and BEETLES!! The Japanese kind..UGH! I don't have many yellows of that shade Maryl. probably because it's my least favorite color in a dl. Fuss and bother is a honey though. timberohio, my rain seems to sneak up on me in the afternoon. i could cap them I guess but I do have a lot to do. they just have to take their chances..Anyway, you are funny! Thank you all!!

Kate, I am so happy with Bullfrog kisses, a big flower and started off with a nice bloom. Kay says 3rd year is the charm. If that happens I may be dancin' nekkid among the daylilies. Nancy, Bullfrog arrived last fall, I am hoping it will do well here. Debra, if you want some of Ashwood, let me know. I moved it last fall, it seems like it has doubled in size. Brad, #7 is actually Pawprints on My Heart. Having a time getting Houzz to work. New computer is very sensitive, so I don't know if it is that, Houzz, or just me. Pawprints has put out a few really pretty blooms, but only a single 10" scape on 4 fans (mature) and this is its 2nd full season, got it fall of 2017. Pink Enchilada is even shorter, but just got it in the fall. Sherry, Little Audrey looks like that a lot, even reblooms occasionally, although I don't think it is listed as such. I am not fond of small daylilies, but when they bloom like this one I have to keep it. If anyone would like some fans of this, I have 2 more clumps of it this size.

Debra, the summer of 2012 was hot and dry here and we didn't get many seeds that year. The pods cracked open and, just like you have encountered, the seeds were not ripe. When I looked back at how long the pods had been on the plant, the pods were opening far too soon. I lost lots of seeds that season for that reason. I hope you get some viable seeds. Nancy

Very nice! Your seedling has a great color. My astilbe have finished blooming. Most astilbe get too dry here, & I don't tend to water much. I'm surprised I still have any left. Beautiful clematis, is it really that pink? Last year my clematis bloomed much better than they did this year, maybe not enough rain. The Band Played on is really pretty, & love Arctic Lace

Your seedling is a beauty, and how nice that it always double scapes. Congrats on that one. The other three daylilies are gorgeous. My Arctic Lace bloomed on 12-inch scapes this year. It just looked ludicrous. You clematis is amazing! I've never been able to grow those very well. And it's too hot here for astilbes, although I do love the look of them. Glad to know you didn't lose any daylilies over the winter. I lost several and a whole bunch of seedlings in pots. I look forward to seeing more of your blooms!

Beautiful photos. I really like your seedling, but And the Band Played on is so pretty with the purple. In the heat here, it is not nearly such a pretty color.

I've had the same problem with Arctic Lace--very short scapes. The Band Played On is quite good here this year.

Pretty seedling. The only dl I have is that is a consistent double scaper is Clarification (Richard Norris). It is a great bloomer. We call Siloam Double Classic S. Single Classic as it blooms double for us only under the best conditions - rain, etc.

Can't tell you how many Astilbes I went through when I first started gardening. I'd get them going for a couple of years and then poof, they were gone. Like Shive, it's our hot/humid climate. I still like to look at others though and you have some pretty ones......The Band Played on is a good one, and your seedling is very nice too. Congrats...............Maryl

The seedling is DH's he even named it My Very Own, it stays no matter what.

Nancy, I was surprised about the astilbes too! So many didn't survive. Clem is that pink purple color whatever it is called, very common.

Debra, I've noticed a lot of short (shorter) scapes this year. Haha I can imagine Francis of Assisi will be totally in the foliage. Sorry about the losses, I did lose a few sdlgs but they aren't anything fancy so I didn't count that.

Kay they do melt pretty quickly here ;)
