Morning glories wont climb???
Comments (12)thanks ruggy, i read the same thing about them liking poor soil, or if the leaves too lucious it attracts pest or something. unfortunatly they do have some pest problem. when i grew it from the seed and when i repotted i underfertilized than other plants. the pest is real mistery. i've try to figure it out, but i haven't seen anything like it. it's tiny weeny soft body type it's light tan or yellow sometimes blackish- i guess when adult. they are definatly not aphids- they are smaller and sort of very thin , short dash line looking. they are making some holes in the leaves, there aren't many but i don't know what they are , i just have to go daily patrol and spray whever i see them. they are in the balcony railing facing the west and a little bit of north, so i think they get plenty of sun light during the summer. maybe it's the seed, i bought it from gurney's and it was cheap and actually i wasn''t crazy about the quality of the seeds. but it's weired otherwise it's growing so much so fast... maybe i'll just expect to have MG flowers next year with good seeds.... thanks for replying. and ppcatz-i personally love vines. they are so pretty. my new favorit is black -eyed susan vine, i always liked clematis , jasmin..... balcony looks so wonderful with lots of vines...See MoreMorning Glory Help - from seed
Comments (14)I've been collecting MG seeds this week from my garden. For me it's been easier to wait for the plant to be frost-killed and dry to a shrivel. I clip the vine in pieces from the trellis or fence with scissors and put the vine pieces into a large open paper shopping bag. Afterwards, the bag can be hung on a hook in the attic or garage--I can remove the seeds when I want. It's okay if the garage or attic freezes has fluctuating freezes. It doesn't effect germination. To remove the seeds quickly, take a few handfuls of vines pieces and place them in a clean sweater box that has a tight fitting lid. Add a tennis ball. Put the lid tightly on the sweater box and shake like mad. The tennis ball bounces around and bashes the seeds out of their dried pods. Shimmy the box back and forth to settle the seeds to the very bottom. Remove the vine pieces and blow away the chaff. Store in paper. T...See Moremorning glory from seed questions (with pics)
Comments (1)From my experience MG"s need LOTS of sun. Just make sure they get it, and they will perk up I'm sure. :) Arum...See MoreMorning glories and Portulaca from seed
Comments (5)Thanks. I soaked them overnight, and the morning glories are already sprouting. I'm still waiting for the portulaca to sprout. Once they've all sprouted, according to the greenhouse directions, then I put them under a plant light. For now, I have them out of direct sunlight. I think the last time I tried this, I had them in my basement and overwatered - they got mildew and didn't survive. This time, I have them in a warmer, drier area, so hopefully they'll keep growing strong. I've planted morning glories for the last 2-3 years (I usually purchase from local store), and they've never self seeded for me....See MoreNHBabs z4b-5a NH
