Casey, are they gawking tourists, or, is it so unusual to see this time of year that other Canadians are highly interested in the bergs?

No need to put your face in if all you want to do is see the fish (seagrass bed). Course, it's a lot more fun to float with them. If you put your arms beside you, they think you're one of the fish, just bigger. Swim along with you and even right in front of your face!

At a recent family reunion at a state park in Ohio, one of the activities we did was painting. My sister-in-law brought along several cardboard "canvases" and an assortment of inexpensive paints. The initial suggestion was to paint a tree such that others could then decorate it with multi-colored "leaves", but in the end most people opted to not have others put the "leaves" on their trees. These are the painting that the group created: The one in the bottom row, center is mine. I was definitely channeling Bob Ross from PBS. I think nearly every time I saw Bob Ross' show he did a painting similar to this.

I love surprise flowers! Maybe not as much as reliable flowers :) , but there is a thrill that comes from first seeing an unexpected spike. I've lost patience with many an orchid (and a couple of garden aloes too, come to think of it) for reluctance to rebloom. For orchids, sometimes it is just a dip in night temperatures that is need. Or a dry period. Some species I never mastered--or there were hit and miss years. So many of the common orchids for sale can bloom for 4-6 months, or longer, and be purchased for $15. I prefer to think of them as replaceable floral features; they are a better value than a cut flower arrangement.

Rob, icebergs are fairly common here in spring and summer but they're not always this close to shore. Some are tourists but some are locals like me who enjoy seeing the icebergs and photographing them.

Oh and by the way, we here in Newfoundland consider "other Canadians" tourists, LOL. Many Canadians have never seen an iceberg as Newfoundland is probably the only place in Canada to see them.

I was just lamenting that I have never seen an iceberg IRL, but reading that many Canadians have never seen an iceberg either made me feel better. A little. I've always wanted to see aurora borealis, too. Ah well, I'm not quite dead yet. ;)
