Artificial flower - yea or nay?
Comments (47)Nope, I don't use fakes. With all due respect to the artificial flower industry they don't seem right to me because I can't smell them. I'm not talking about the scent of flowers, though I do like sensing that, too; I'm talking about the smell of a living thing that real greens and flowers give off as they respire. It's just a dissonance for me to see gorgeous (and they certainly can be) flowers and greenery and not smell the odor of living plants. One sense perceives flowers and another of my senses perceives something quite different. It's jarring to me, like unexpectedly hearing the recorded voice of a deceased loved-one. I was trained as a horticulturist and in the past have owned commercial greenhouses and flower farms, so maybe I'm just spoiled. But I don't think it costs a lot of money to have a few blossoms in your house all the time. Sure, if you want big, hotel lobby-sized arrangements you're definitely going to have to shell out some serious cash. But few people have occasions or houses that need such grandiose displays anyway. Even in the depths of winter a couple of blossoms in a tiny vase on your desk and nightstand will cheer you every day and cost only a few bucks at a time. If you change the water and recut the stems every other day or so, even cheap WalMart blossoms will last surprisingly well. Though if you're not going for the mixed bouquet look, and instead heading for a smaller bijou-type arrangement, you might find a few stems from a good-quality florist give you a better value as they will have been properly handled and conditioned. But if you like the look of faux flower arrangements and plants and they don't creep you out like they do me, then I see no problem with them in your house. Comments (10)Thank you all for your input. I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your opinion. I really don't know how much light they are going to put off since I can't plug them in like a table light and see :( Each takes two candle light bulbs. Thoughts on that? The can lights give off a lot of light, but its just dark over the island. Yes the kids were DONE holding up those lights for me! Funny you all noticed! They both sighed when I asked them to do it since they had already done it once before. I guess I should have given thought to what they were wearing when I put them in the pic! Both were still in jammies! But my 5 year old (who was laying in the recliner in the fireplace pic) had to be sure she got herself in a shot too. Kids.......See MoreMixing hardware colors yea or nea?
Comments (4)Hi, sounds gorgeous! I myself do not have bronze. I have been surfing the net for years though looking at different takes on the white shaker kitchen. On going with a brushed nickel faucet: I think that will do 2 things. The continuity of the brushed silver toned surfaces will be unifying and beautiful, and at the same time it will make the dark bronze pulls pop, especially with the dark brown floor to highlight them. Of course you can't go wrong with a bronze faucet for the simple fact that it matches your pulls and would certainly stand out as a show piece against the light counters. So If you are crazy for bronze faucets, I would just get one for the love of it. I would not get a chrome one though, because it introduces a third finish, which is hard to pull off. Hope this helps. :)...See More84" Double Vanity - One Piece or Modular?
Comments (12)Both are kind of fussy for my taste, but filling an 84" space isn't the easiest thing. I'd vote for something simple and more streamlined ... with one big mirror across that back wall -- http://designelementusa.com/product/london-84-double-sink-vanity-set-in-white-finish/: Who knew Walmart was in the cabinet game? https://www.walmart.com/ip/MTD-Vanities-Ricca-84-in-Double-Sink-Bathroom-Vanity-Set/50102878 how about a wall-to-wall floating ledge? It'd make that area look huge, and there's nothing to it, so it'd have to be economical: or even two pedestals with a large cabinet between them for storage:...See Moremary_lu_gw
