knee hurts ....!

2 months ago I just took a step to walk & then a sharp pain went through my rt. knee; no fall, twist or anything but it still hurts & I have to use a cane & can barely walk!

Was told it was probably the: medial collateral ligament that was hurt. Have to wait two months for an orthopedic appt. but was wondering if others have had a similar problem with the knee ... what was done for it, ? surgery, ? injections, or ?

Anxious to hear what the Dr. says but it hasn't helped my knee I'm sure having to wait 2 months for an appt. either!

You knee will take a long time to heal. You need to do what your doctor told you to do. Yes it will be painful but so will any future treatment. Knees, especially ligament problems can take years to heal. Not what you wanted to hear but it is the truth. As far as an orthopedic solution until the doctor evaluates the problem no one can tell what is needed.

Ligaments do not take years to heal. In fact, they heal in about 6-8 weeks, and the new tissue takes about a year to mature and fully strengthen.

I'm sorry you have to wait so long to see a doctor!

It could be a meniscal tear, particularly if it's still this painful (and based on the mechanism of injury). Try to maintain you range of motion, treat swelling with cold therapy, use your cane and take anti-inflammatory/pain relief meds if you are able.

You all made me chuckle to myself! Labor Day...yep Tanya and I labored also. She dug some plants that sold on the LA and helped shovel about 700 lbs out of 4 tons of horse compost out of the pickup from my brothers place. I did the rest of the shoveling. Finally she has no more area to make beds out of! I've also been busy getting the Spring planted seedlings into a permanent place. Got 350 in since Friday and only have 235 more to go. Of course pods are coming on rather heavy too, so no rest for the weary. LOL Think on the upside...were all in pretty good shape from all the exersize we've been getting.

Hi All!! I go to a rheumatologist next week.....I have been hurting real bad all over but mostly in my hands. I can not close my right hand without screaming....it hurts so bad...When I wake up, it's like I can't hardly walk and I can't hold my toothbrush. Last night I got feed up with it and took half a pain pill. (Vicodin).... My regular doctor go all mad when I kept complaining about pain. I also have Hepatitis C. Just found that out last year....I had back surgery a year ago in January, almost 2 years now....and I was complaining about my belly being bloated then....well, now it looks like I am PG...A older lady friend at work came up to me one day and said *you looked PG*.....I said, *I know*.... :-(....I went from weighing like 120-125 to 140-145.....It's really not the weight, it's how my belly is.....I also have had an under active thyroid for years.....now, it is all messed up, too...I have had to change my meds 4 times.....this last time, instead of coming back in 2 months, they say 6 weeks.....Sooooo, have I bored you all yet?? LOL....I could live with all of this if only MY HANDS worked....LOL....Now I almost can't wait to see the rheumatologist. Oh, I forgot the best part...LOL...How I found out about the fibro, was I had went to my normal GP doctor and him and I got into a little disagreement. I was complaining about hurting and he was say crap like *look at your file, look how big it is, and there is nothing wrong with me...Yada Yada, Yada....* Well about 2 weeks later I came across my bill and he wrote on it Fibromylagia. I didn't even know what the heck that was.....LOL... How can I get up in the morning without my 3-4 cups of coffee?? I need that....LOL Thanks for listening.....:-) Good Luck to you Lawmar!! Hi Lido! Yes - I remember your encouragement very well and it was much appreciated! I do recall the 'one month' part and I kept thinking....'why is this taking me so darn long!!!!' Perhaps I can return the favor to you and offer some advice as well. I do have more pics if you need to view any for your research before you try to tackle the job. The textured brick is a TOUGH job to strip. Unless you discover some trick that I have not found, just forget about removing all of the paint from each crevice - I don't think it's even possible. Mine has somewhat of a rustic/distressed look due to the paint residue. I described this project to my friends as, "....the equivalent of trying to remove paint from an English Muffin." I am just glad that I was successful in not ruining my hardwood floors - yaaay!

Yes JP- Start rockin that knee ASAP!! I'm preaching here from a downstairs bedroom! Damn spring cold!!! Missed work yesterday, & today is the normal day off. OSP- I KNEW it! Should'a had my surgery in JH!!! That way, I could've done my rehab at the Four-Seasons there....;-) DW & I walked through there in July 2013. Were staying in West-Yellowstone, but drove thru YNP one day, then down to JH. MIMI- I bet you've got lotsa rehab stories you could tell!!? My CPM-Machine was on when I woke up...I THINK... If not, it was on soon afterward! You also reminded me that I had started "Pre-replacement" exercises 2 months b4 surgery too! "Go in stronger" was kinda their mantra... Faron

Thanks everyone ... I will bring an update after I see the ortho dr. next week. The knee is swollen a bit now & no improvement going on two months! It is after I rest awhile that when I get up the knee is worse/hurts but after walking a bit & w/ice pack it is better ...

Odd, just taking a casual walking step this happened to the knee... no climbing, no stepping. ....!?

Very easy to injure knees as we get older, I squatted over bathroom sink yrs ago when in 30's as removing wallpaper & I thought easier to wash out rag & get it full of hot water to soften more, dumb stunt, took about 3 months for me to recover, My dad had meniscal tears so bad they made him retire & he was miserable but after months of laying around the house he drug the neighbor's exercise bike in unto the patio & gave it a try, 1st just a little but he got so he could walk without a cane but had to be extremely careful. Difference was with the bike you didn't have your full body weight baring on your knees & it strengthened the knees enough so he could gingerly walk. he did use can off & on in his 90's so it gave him a better life for about 20 yrs. Don't try that tho until it is healed & dr. says you can do something, works gentler to use bike instead of just trying to walk when it is healed.

oops, used a cane off & on into 90's, he got the bike neighbor didn't want, he didn't steal it, should have made myself clear. I've also hurt my knees just moving a box & putting it in garage, very easy to do but heals in about a week.
