Wooden floors in the kitchen????
Comments (5)My red oak kitchen floors have held up relatively well. The one area they haven't was directly an issue because of water damage (sink was leaking over a weekend that we were out so it sat on the floor for more than 8 hours). It's not terribly visible (more a texture thing when walking on it) and the fix is relatively simple (re-sand and poly). I actually found that the finish I used was not terribly good and so need to re-do the entire main floor as a result - so net/net, no extra work for me!...See Morewood floors in a kitchen?
Comments (17)I love my wood floors. 3 kids, 2 dogs and a busy family. They are white oak in the process of being refinished. Wood does show more wear and tear but a good wood floor can last a lifetime. Our plan is to have our floor guy come once a year to touch up and reseal to keep it looking beautiful. It is a little more expensive but worth it because in the long run far cheaper than getting floors redone every 5-7 years. My sister has Pergo and really dislikes it. It is harder to keep clean than she expected. She is disappointed and thinking of replacing it with something else. I might add that my older sister is a perfectionist so maybe a normal person would be fine with Pergo. I too thought about putting a laminate but DH likes wood too much....See Morewooden flooring in the kitchen

Kitchens that get used, have the highest wear areas in a typical home (except for under a rolling desk chair maybe). Open floor plans complicate professional maintenance since there's often no way to work on an isolated worn area. Many new houses here have big open kitchen/breakfast/family rooms and when the kitchen needs a recoat, it often all has to be done. If you have mats to take the brunt of wear, are scrupulous with keeping sand off the floor and minimizing moisture, it should work fine. The numerous pros like appearance, comfort underfoot and the ability to refinish generally outweigh the cons....See MoreHow to modernize the cherry wood floors/warmth in kitchen cabinets?
Comments (12)First things first: PAINT with WHITE PRIMER. Yes. Just get the walls READY for a new colour. Primer is SUPER cheap and SUPER USEFUL. It gets the walls ready for the EXPENSIVE paint...without pay for expensive paint+primer. Once you have the yellow walls covered you will see the REAL colour of the house. The kitchen really needs to have the yellow taken off the walls. And get the tiles off the backsplash. The other SINGLE option: new counter top. But I would only decide on that once I had gotten all the warm tones off the walls. For me the biggest issue for the house is the tile-like flooring. I'm hoping they are vinyl...that would make for an easy removal. If they are real tile...they will be expensive to remove and deal with. But first things first: cover your yellow walls with white primer. You will be amazed at how different the wood looks when it is not being washed with more yellow....See MoreUser
