Help-Dappled Willow leaves turning brown!
Comments (13)I hate to dredge up an old thread but I am having the same problem with my dappled willow. One half of it has turned brown and looks like it is dying. Actually I think it is dead. The other half if fine. This started last year and I thought it would recover, but no. I cut off all the dead branches and now have a weird looking half tree that looks healthy. The tree is in the middle of the yard. My only guess is maybe salt from shoveling the sidewalk, that gets piled near one side of the tree and not the other. But I would think salt in the soil would kill a whole plant not just kill half of it? There are lots of shoots coming from the trunk. I suppose I could start over rooting a new tree....See Moredistal half of leaves brown on toad lily and solomen's seal
Comments (3)Not a viral problem. Much more likely a shortage of water plus, as has been said, it's late season. As for the shortage of water, several things can contribute: 1. Your plants haven't yet developed the extensive root system they need. 2. Shortage of applied water, either rainfall or supplemental -- from a hose. 3. A heat wave during which the roots couldn't keep up with the top's needs. Perhaps you heard the saying about perennials: The 1st year they sleep; the 2nd, they creep; the 3rd, they leap. So, overall, be certain the original root ball is mnoderately moist. Then, be patient. It takes most plants 2 years to root in well, so that they're able to support vigorous top growth according to the kind of plant at hand....See MoreDahlia wilting and leaves turning brown
Comments (22)I'm a first time wanna be dahlia grower. I'm hoping someone on here can help. I ordered some dinnerplate tubers from Swan Island. Followed directions to a tee. Put in ground in April. Had to replace 3 or 4 of them. How big should they be now? I live in South Carolina. We've had rain this season but obviously we've also had plenty of heat. Only one of them is about 18 in tall - the others less than a foot. Thank goodness I didn't spend anymore than I did. BTW - the mixed pkg I bougt from big box are easily 3 ft tall and are beginning to bloom. Is there anything I can do to save these dinnerplates? Sandy soil, have fertilized with 5-10-10 2x but only after tubers were established. Have used snail bait. Thanks...See MorePin Oak tree with brown spots / leaves turning brown early
Comments (5)The color also looks too yellow to be right. From the photo, it looks like it may have been planted too deep since I cannot see the root flare, the part of the trunk where the base of a tree broadens slightly, though it might be just hidden by mulch. Or it may have come from the supplier planted too deep. IME pin oaks are reasonably happy with OH soil. Mulch shouldn’t be against the trunk, so pull that back. Ideally mulch will start a few inches from the trunk and go out to the drip line of the tree on a small tree such as this to reduce competition from grass. I would pull aside the mulch and soil until you find the root flare to see how deeply it is planted compared to the flare. Have you done a pH test? What has the weather, particularly rain, been like this year compared to usual?...See Moregardener365
