Master Bedroom-windows/drapes
Comments (9)Suzan - THanks for the picture - the only reason why I don't want to put the bed in front of the window is - I have a very, very limited view from any of my windows. So I am using my small side yard as my yard. So I will have flowers, a pond, etc. and I want to be able to see if from my bedroom and my headboard is solid and very high. Sujarf - I don't mind having a nightstand in front of the window but I do mind that I won't be able to use outside mount drapes or my current drapes unless I find some sort of solution - Would it bother you to have 1 room with smaller casing than other rooms. If I make the casing smaller it will help alittle bit. Would 2 1/2 window casing look ok with a 5 inch baseboard? Downsizing is very hard to do......See MoreMaster Bedroom Window not centered on plans
Comments (12)My architect originally put my windows in the corner, the new style, and I didn't think I'd like it so I had my DH take out those and put just one in what I thought was the center of the wall. Then when I went to look at it I realized it wasn't centered. I too first thought I'd just cover the imperfection with drapes, but then thought, no I couldn't live with that. So my solution was take the window out all together and put in a single glass door that opens to the porch. I'm not sure I'm going to be happy with this decision, but it's too late now. I do get a lot of light into the bedroom from the master bath and I made sure to put in a lot of lights, recessed and otherwise. I thought I might put curtains on that wall behind the bed that would expand the entire wall and have the recessed lights shine on them and that would give a feeling of "windows." Oh well, at least I hope so. This is my first home build so I had no idea how differently things look in person than they do on those plans. I've learned now though!!...See MoreMaster Bedroom Window Treatments- help! (w pics)
Comments (20)West Elm curtains arrived and they are perfect!!!!!!!!!! Totally transformed our room; we are so pleased :) Thank you all so much for your help and encouraging me not to settle. (and I fully admit I do not have good decorating taste, so if you have any suggestions, I am open.) And I was really confused about what West Elm's color "zinc" was... if anyone is curious, it is a dark, metallic grey with a slight beige hue... I would rename it "Gunmetal." The material is great... I have not ironed them yet. I am hoping over the next week the wrinkles will fall out. If they do not, I will ask my mom to iron them ;) I'm horrible at ironing and also due to have a baby any day now :) :) :) Now onto finding a rug!...See MoreMaster Bedroom Windows
Comments (9)Like the idea of windows over the head of the bed. If you are installing windows there, then measure the width of your bed and make sure the window widths and any pieces in between add up to that width. If at all possible, choose windows that will open AND that are at least double pane windows and rated for cold winters where you live. Heat rises so high windows would need to keep the heat in. Also, before you choose your windows, know what kind of window treatment you could use for them. Shutters with adjustable louvers would be worth considering for high windows over the bed....See MoreBruce Crawford
