HELP! Beach House - Living Room with Front Door Entry in the Middle
Comments (12)Chess-yeah that's me - yes, that is exactly right! the owners dad built it about 70 years ago. Jamie Ludwig - I posted some additional photos that did not seem to upload before Saypoint - Was thinking I can't do seating on either side of the door because on one side you have fireplace and the other side is the entryway to the other room. We tried the sofa facing the fireplace but it did not seem to work well as it felt like you walked into the sofa when you came in. Also tried the sofa in front of the tv with the back to the door but then again felt like you walked right into the sofa and it was too close to the TV....See MoreAwkward, small Living Room with stone fireplace and front door entry!
Comments (33)For the time being at least, leave the stone above the fireplace plain. If at some point in time in the future you find art you truly like, the you could add that ... but don't just look/settle for something there because you think you should want something there. Like recliners myself. Consider a pair of them. As long as you leave the walk path clear between front door and back of the house, how you define your sitting space as being separate from the walk space depends upon what works for you. A room sized rug would be worth considering and/or a long runner in the walk path might serve the purpose. You could invest in a couple waist high shelving units and put one on each side of the room with the back to the living/sitting area and the doors, whether glass or solid ... or even open shelves ... facing the entry hall. They'll need to be sized and weighted and/or secured to wall/floor so they'll not easily tip over so you could also add a lamp on each one. Think: upscale overhead kitchen cabinet with glass doors and finished board on top set atop a built base. #5 of 20 https://www.thespruce.com/ingenious-ikea-billy-bookcase-hacks-4006865 https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/sarreid-ltd-library-bookcase-rfd3082.html...See Morehelp with a small living room with front door entry
Comments (13)Cat: If you want the best advice, please provide measurements and a view of the space to the right of the fireplace. Is that a wall facing the door, or what? If so, then a sofa in the layout you like could face the TV, placed on that wall with a great credenza below it. In a small living room, the TV over the fireplace will overwhelm the room the minute you walk in. Is that the feel you want? And you won't be able to do the layout you want with TV over fireplace unless you're going to watch sideways somehow--makes no sense. Stop thinking about "decor" like tiles until after you figure out the layout from some of the pros giving you advice based on incomplete photos, no measurements, no pictures of your furnishings. Many, many Design Dilemmas are solved with the proper layout, but we need to see your upholstered furnishings, their sizes, size of living room (you must have measurements from real estate packet, right?)...See MoreLooking for ideas on how to decorate the front entry way
Comments (6)On the right lower deck, I’d have a seating area … chairs, table, bench, etc, any color: I’d also have a few bigger pots of plants, instead of a bunch of smaller ones. Rendering of front entry with chairs: I’d get plant stands or other bases to have varying levels of decor you do, not just have everything sitting on the decking....See MoreKathy
