Cocker spaniel puppy with low fluctuating blood platelet

This is regarding my 2 month old cocker spaniel.
We adopted him about 10 days back and he started to cough the next day on.
Our vet started treating him for an infection as his platelet count was low 79k and WBC high and RBC low.
His cough became better and after the 2ndblood test his platelet count increased to 103k but WBC count decreased marginally so the Vet increased his dosage of antibiotics.
After a few days his cough disappeared completely but his appetite went down so the Vet suggested we stop the antibiotics as that may be the reason. That helped as his appetite became better but not as good as when we had got him.
He has become moody and eats whenever he feels like. The number of times he'd eat earlier has reduced but when he eats, he eats well.
After 2 days of no antibiotics we got another blood test done. His WBC came to normal but his platelet count dropped drastically 24k
Haemoglobin very low and even the RBC and the Lymph percentage high.

We are very worried and confused. The vet here has asked us to give him papaya leaves juice everyday to increase his Platelet count.

Please help us out to figure what the problem is on an urgent basis so that it's not too late.
