Question about High Thread Count Sheets
Comments (31)I was recently watching a video about sheets, fabrics and fitting. They said that the higher the thread count number the hotter the sheets will sleep. So if you are like me and sleep very hot it is not a good idea to go with a thread count over around 300. IF you live where it is really cold then go for the 800-1000 or over range. Have you seen the sleep tite sheets that have the elasticized sides, not just a band of elastic, but elastic up the sides? They are supposed to stay on the mattress no matter the size. I have a cuddle bed mattress topper that has that type of sides and it is great, stays put and so easy to put on because of that. Overstock has them and a little video to show how well they go on and stay. I have not tried them but if they work as well as the mattress topper I would love them....See MoreFirst sleep: Brooklinen Classic Core Sheetset
Comments (26)One more thing. I just got the new Cuddledown catalog today. I want to mention them because I've had their pillows and duvet for years. I've also been in their store in Maine. Plus, when my 20 year old duvet needed to be refilled with down, I was able to send it to them and they made the repair reasonably. So that's all to say that I have done business with them for a long time and I trust them. I also just bought a new bed pad from them and it's outstanding. Was very expensive but it has made a difference and should give me many years of service. Just noticed they have 350 thread count percale sheets with some special pricing. On the same page there are cotton waffle weave blankets. They have sales and I if I needed something I would watch for those and try to take advantage as I did on the bed pad....See MoreWool question
Comments (8)Hi Pat......remember it takes 2 things to shrink wool..hea t and movement....forget both LOL. This is how I did it in a TL....because gentle cycle is still too much movement for wool I just soaked it for 15 minutes in lukewarm water...wool releases soils very easily. Than I spin it out, spin is not the same as movement..than fill up with same temp as wash water, this is important that temps be as close to same as possible. Let it soak for 10 minutes and spin out. Lay flat to dry otherwise it puts to much stress on the wool hanging it. As for detergent you can use a cheap liquid without enzymes. Purex works great for wool, but read the back as some Purex now have enzymes. Important things about wool. No enzymes No chlorine Movement should be only a occassional back and forth motion like a few inches to each side but not agitation and only a few times. Do not wring or drip dry...spin cycle is fine as its not a true movement but more compression. Pat I use a wool blanket in a percale duvet cover in winter..heavenly..absolutly delish...a down comforter can roast me at times but wool is breathable so it will keep you warm without causing a sweat. I see a lot of cotton covered wool blankets on the market now days for a LOT of money...someone figured out what us mature folks knew years ago lol. I say if you have a duvet cover and a wool blanket you can have the most magnificent winter covering without forking out a grand. For those of you that have your cotton duvet covers but no wool blanket...hit the thrift stores you may even be lucky and find the cream of the crop a St.Marys wool blanket, but for sure you'll find wool blankets. I'm serious you will never have a nicer or more comfy winter cover than cotton covered wool. Pat if you have more questions ask..XOXO...See MoreLaundry questions for Mama Pinky
Comments (41)Mama, my BIL does all the ironing at their house, he finds it relaxing. He sets up the ironing board in front of sports on TV and irons away ;0) All his dress shirts (does a flawless job), anything else in the household that may need it. He doesn't cook or clean, hates to shop, but does the laundry and irons. They've just finished building a weekend home and he has his own laundry room there. Washer dryer, deep sink, cabinets, hanging space and folding counter, good lighting and a wall mounted TV. DH insists on creased jeans, and I'm talking work jeans so we've agreed he will do his own. He'll iron his own casual stuff, khakis etc, but if he needs a dress shirt or dress pants I'm fine pressing those for him....See More- 7 years ago
