Talk to me about panel-ready dishwashers, please!
Comments (12)There's panel ready and panel ready. Some are meant to look like dishwashers but have your decor instead of factory chosen. Other's are "integrated" like Gizmonike's. Some are half way between. The merely built in ones can have doors which are flush with the cabinetry, or which protrude slightly, depending on the design and installation. All integrated ones are supposed to be flush with the cabinetry, and if they aren't then there is a problem with the installation. There are spec sheets and installation instructions online (pdf's) for most of the major names at their websites. Some of the online merchants have them as well. They make it easy to learn what all is involved in the installation even if the actual work will be done by pros....See MoreWhat does an unpaneled, panel ready dishwasher look like?
Comments (10)lascatx and dilly_ny - I never even thought about that problem, but it does make sense, thanks! AngieDIY- That's a good reason for considering one with a recessed handle, how do you like it with the panel on it and the recessed handle, I guess the panel is everywhere but the top? Fori- Great Idea! Especially since we always have a holiday party and I know my husband would hate it unpaneled. Even though he won't like the the Ikea panel isn't the same as what our cabs are, it'll be better than the unpaneled piece. Pooppup - I agree, that would NOT work! Thank you for the pictures, it is very ugly. Partyof7- Thanks, I know it'll annoy my husband but I do most of the dishwasher stuff anyway....See MoreHow to use a panel-ready dishwasher with partial overlay cabinets?
Comments (20)Cheryl, tell me about your cabinet door.s How are you getting these done? I know your example kitchen well as it is the inspiration for MY 40's kitchen as well. ALL the cabinet makers in my area will only make 1/2 in thick slab doors with a rounded edge and a standard overlay when the originals are only 1/4 inch thick because the door is inset into the opening of the face frame with an overhang onto the frame. (so you WERE right when referencing "inset" cabinets.) The old way was to inset the door into the face frame with 1/4 inch outside the face frame. follow me? So my question is have you found someone to inet the door so the profile is only 1/4 inch? Or are you going with a standard slab and a rounded edge? I REALLY want to find an old school maker to have "real" vintage cabinets....See MoreBosch panel ready dishwasher with 2 drawer fronts.
Comments (10)"it would be the same in my eyes as having an all white kitchen but since I can't find one more white door using a beige one instead since its close enough." Huh? Buy a piece of 1/4" plywood. Using the template, cut the plywood to the required single-door size. Sand, prime, and paint the plywood the color of the IKEA doors. Pay particular attention to the edges of the plywood as they will be exposed when the dishwasher door is open. Attach the handles to the IKEA doors. Countersink the screws. Attach the IKEA doors and handles to the plywood from the rear of the plywood. Countersink the screws so they do not protrude beyond the rear surface of the plywood. Choose the screw locations so they do not interfere with the locations of the screws used to attach the panel to the dishwasher. Attach the panel to the dishwasher as described in the instructions. Install the dishwasher in the opening. Notes 1: you must make sure that the total weight of the door does not exceed the maximum allowed. Note 2: you will have to push the dishwasher 1/4" deeper into the opening than if you were able to attach the IKEA doors to the dishwasher directly. I don't know if this matters and whether it will adversely affect the depth of the toe kick....See Moresjhockeyfan325
