Bedroom Decoration - Over bed, rug color, pillow.

We remodeled our master bedroom and I need help figuring out what to put above my bed. We ordered the sconces in the 2nd picture and those will hang on the wall above the nightstands. I'm not sure what to put above the bed that won't clash with the bedspread. We are also getting a rug for under the bed. I know I'm going with a non-patterned rug, just not sure if I go lighter for contrast or closer to the tile color for a monochromatic look. Any suggestions on pillows for the bedspread would be appreciated.

Ok so- For the wall, I'd d probably do some kind of rustic wood wall art. It would be the same, or similar color to your nightstands. For the rug, I'd pick the same white as your bedspread, or even the same white and blue. But that would be harder to match up.

So I guess I would choose those three colors, the brown of your nightstand for the something rustic and large above your bed, and the white, or white with blue of your bedspread for the rug.

For pillows, I would again choose one of the colors in your bedspread and use that.

We have the same comforter cover but use it at the end of our bed over a quilt. We also have a similar wall color, so I totally understand your challenge! I'm not sure if this will be helpful, but I have gone with a light aqua quilt and white and blue pillows to keep the room from being too dark and too busy. I would go with a light to medium colored neutral rug if I were you. Navy is so bad at showing dirt on the floor that I'd stay away from it for a rug. As for something over the bed, you need some place for the eye to rest since the comforter is so busy. We have a plain linen headboard that we will be putting up, but something like Ellie suggested would look great.

I took some pictures to show what I mean about it looking lopsided with DH and my sleeping pillows below. This is what it looks like with three smaller sized sleeping pillows below: Pls. ignore the comforter at the bottom. I bought a new duvet and the euro shams from Pottery Barn a few months ago that I'm planning to switch over to for a spring/summer look and am figuring out how to incorporate the euroshams into the picture. Another option I suppose would be to try to exchange the euroshams for standard shams and put the sleeping pillows behind those and don't use the matelasse shams. That way I don't have to deal with so many bed pillows. Either way though, it does seem to give a more balanced look to stick with 3 smaller sized sleeping pillows. Also, for those with queen beds, do you use standard or queen sized pillows? The queen sized ones don't seem to fit as well in the shams as the standard sized ones do. DO they make shams for queen size pillows or only standard and king size? I need to decide soon if I'm going to return any of these pillows.

That's a tough one. If more change is possible, I'd consider putting the bed on the wall where the dresser is now. Put the dresser under the window. Eliminates the problem. But if you want to keep the bed where it is, I'd consider doing a Roman shade that matches the wall paint -- it would all blend together when the blind is pulled. But I'm thinking you don't want the window covered, so . . . I got nuthin. Well, maybe not nuthin, exactly. Shutters that would add some width to the whole scene?

You may want to start saving inspiration rooms you love; it will really help if you have a direction. I would purchase the rug fist vs bedding and cushions so you have a style to build on. Be sure to use various colors, patterns and textures so it feels more interesting The headboard is high and I think art above each night stand would be more complimentary and use small brass lamps for a modern look. You could add the sign on another wall If you need a bedskirt, a more tailored style would feel more modern Dresser and tv wall - mirror, plant, chair, art, baskets

I am interested to find a way forward with cyan, purple and yellow! What a challenge. I have teen boys too. Some boys care a lot about how their room looks, some boys don't care at all---I have both in my house, ha. First of all, you need to add to this thread a room layout. That will help. Next, with those colors, I would think in terms of a yellow comforter, cyan (bright blue, right?) colored sheets, maybe, and a little dash of purple here and there. Maybe some art or a wall hanging/tapestry (or a rug) with those colors can give you something to pull colors from. You haven't mentioned a budget?

Ellie, I really like the wood art idea. Something that adds interest but not too busy. I think I have a better vision of what to look for.

Namarie, I like how you've finished your bed. Very pretty.
