Karastan rug questions
Comments (7)"Connie, do you mind sharing which eBay dealer you bought your rugs from?" I'll be happy to share. It was Pakobel Rugs, a dealer out of Florida. (http://shop.ebay.com/pakobelrugs/m.html?_nkw=) They describe their rugs very accurately, and their shipping charges are about as good as they can be. Beware, they sell rugs in ALL conditions, so read the descriptions carefully and study the photos. The rug in my bedroom is one of my best buys. It's 9' x 12 or so, the colors are good, the edges on it are perfect, and it cost me a little over $300. It must have been a table sitting on it at one time, because there's a small racetrack worn in the center of it. Not a problem for me, however, because I was buying it to go under a king-size bed ... the worn places are more-than-hidden under the bed. Here are some photos. The first one is taken looking down from my stairs, so you can see the Karastan stair runner, and the semi-antique door rug and hall runner in the same shot. The colors don't match exactly, but they're close enough for me. This is a not-so-good photo of the detail of the hall runner. I like the fact that there's mistakes and worn spots ... it adds character. :) Hope this helps, Connie Here is a link that might be useful: home and garden blog...See MoreShould I cover my new hardwoods with a rug?
Comments (61)I remember when you got those new sofas and how much I loved them. Now, with your beautiful wood flooring, everything is looking super! I feel a rug would go nicely, there. You have already received lots of good advice & suggestions from other posters. I'll throw in another option for you to consider. For my home, I've used washable Latex backed rugs from JCPenney. I know many people will cringe at the mention of Latex backing in contact with wood floors. I've heard that some factory pre-finished floors will be fine with these (Latex backed) types of rugs. I'm keeping a close eye as the months go by and so far (it's been 1 year), all is good. My floors are engineered wood by Lauzon. These rugs are not as plush as other more expensive rugs, but they are fine for me. I have not had the need to wash them, yet. When I do, I'll try the smaller one (5'x8' family room) first and see how it goes. I'll use a commercial front load "mega capacity" washer & then hang to dry. The 8 x 10 living room may just need to be washed by hand/hose in the backyard one sunny day. If you have a JC Penney near by, rugs can be returned if you don't like them. Also, don't pay full price! JCP always has sales. My 5 x 8 Double Border rug was $170, the 8x10 Majestic Scroll was $220 (including tax & free ship). The fibers are Nylon and they are made in the U.S.A. These rugs are not absorbing dirt hardly at all. My Olefin fiber rug in the entry (ordered from an online rug store) became dirty looking after only 3 months : ( I also do not like the feel of the Olefin rug. Pictured below is the 8 x 10 JCPenney Majestic Scroll rug (color: Sand) in my living room. I don't have a coffee table or ottoman, yet. This open space is where grand baby practices rolling over & his toddler cousin builds Lego creations : ) Here is a link that might be useful: JCPenney Rugs...See MoreAnother Possible Karastan for my LR
Comments (57)Because first you said you liked the darker rugs and then brought up the color balance issue. The rug has been discontinued as was the other one I was looking at last week that was an ivory rug. Somehow all of the ivory rugs in their collection give a more contemporary feel to me. Maybe I am confusing myself? Wanting a traditional rug in non-traditional colors? I'm beginning to think I'm in over my head and am lacking some design sense to pull it all together. You are right, it will cover a large area, though is the remaining 2% left undone. I'm so sick of people coming in and asking about my blue tape "rug". Haha! Maybe I'll have blue tape for the next 10-years trying to figure this out. That sage color is the only one that causes me to hesitate--hard to tell if it works or clashes.... Taken as a whole as in your PS version, it does seem to work....See MoreHelp me choose a foyer rug!
Comments (24)I think 2x3 will be too small. The door is 36". Here is a pic of a cheapo LNT rug that is 24x44. I don't think I'd want it any smaller. I think I'll check Tuesday Morning. I've only seen smaller rugs there--maybe I'll get lucky. Or at least I can get a better feel for what works colorwise--as I'm kinda stumped on this one situated as it is between two other rugs, one of which is a real beauty....See MoreHolly- Kay
