Tree tubes for apple trees?

I'm seeing varying opinions on the use of tree tubes with apple trees on other sites. I have about 30 trees planted now and it seemed at first that I wouldn't have a problem but the deer have found them.. One of the problems cited is that you end up with very sharp crotch angles for the limbs. I'm wondering though if this applies only to dwarfed trees. I wouldn't necessarily expect my standard size apple tree to even have branches under say the 5 feet that the tube will cover -I'm thinking I'd just trim them anyway.

Thoughts on if these are a good idea?
