I'm bumping this as a reminder to all the local folks. There is only a little over a week until the gathering, and I'm trying to make sure that as many people as possible know about it. I just sent out an email with final details to everyone on my mailing list. The email said: Please mark your calendar and plan to attend the organizational meeting of the Old Dominion chapter of the Heritage Roses Group. (My apologies to those of you who receive this message, and live too far away to attend.) Sunday, October 10, 2010. 11am, at Hartwood Roses, 335 Hartwood Road, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22406. The purpose of this meeting is to gather old rose enthusiasts for food and fellowship, to answer questions and share experience, and to discuss local volunteer opportunities with old roses and gardens. Our special guest for this gathering will be Dennis Whetzel, nursery manager at the Thomas Jefferson Center for Historic Plants at Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia. Lunch will be a pot luck buffet ... attendees are asked to bring a dish of their choice to share. Please contact me to reserve your spot at the gathering ... email Connie@hartwoodroses.com. The last open garden day this year will be Saturday, October 9. For those who are planning to attend the HRG meeting, and intend to buy roses that day, please order ahead of time on the web site if you can, to guarantee that your selections are available. Most remaining varieties are in short supply. We already have at least one garden volunteer opportunity, thanks to our friend Nick at Heritage Rosarium. We'll discuss the details at the meeting, and report back here afterward. I look forward to seeing as many old rose enthusiasts as possible next weekend. I'm so excited!!! Connie

What JEMDANDY suggests concerning the firewalls is a huge problem these days and unless you check for it occasionally, it sneaks up on you. Here's another possibility: I don't know if your particular anti-virus program uses Sun Belt antivirus technology. If you check your task manager and see something similar to SBAMsvc.exe then, you are using it. That particular antivirus is dynamic where it checks all opened files and incoming email for virus. Unfortunately, it is also a resource hog. I'm not saying other programs don't cause the same problems. I am just particularly familiar with this one since they provide programming for a lot of the antivirus packages out there. If another company is used, the below would still help you see if that is your problem. You probably notice the hangups when you have incoming mail with attachments, especially large ones. All the resources are being used to check the mail and even a ctrl-alt-del doesn't have an impact. It actually will but it has to wait in line for it to get it's allocation of resources to launch. Sometimes you'll see your email request time out. Of course, not having an antivirus checker for email is like walking through a mall in your underware. However, the best way to see if this is your problem is to go into your antivirus software settings and turn off email checking. Once the mail has transferred over, turn it back on. This would be AFTER you have done what JEMDANDY has suggested and still have the problem. If indeed this resolves your problem you have 2 choices....do this every time before calling for your mail or, add more memory. It's unfortunate that we have to "retool" our equipment to use a product that is supposed to be helping us protect and utilize what we have. However, with the sophistication of malware and Virus attacks, the products protecting us from them have become more and more resource dependent, to keep up. You also really need to clean out your temporary internet and cache files as well as cookies. This can do the same thing you describe if they get too large.

I looked at your ideabooks which had picture rail examples that align with the top of the window casing. Oh good. That was what I was going to post here. So you've seen them. What I'm doing in my house is using the picture rail, actually a 6" frieze board the same width at the top of the window to run around the whole room. Here is an idea of how I'm doing my room. My house is very craftsman. Above the frieze board, I'm painting the same color as the ceiling and I'm not using any crown molding. I particularly am in love with the look by Hoffman-Grayson Architects in my Interior Design Details ideabook. And I'm a huge fan of Sarah Susanka who also uses them a lot. What it does is help the "humanize" the scale of a high ceiling.
