clubm, I'm a bit of a fanatic about cleaning cookies and temporary files. What I did was create a folder on the desktop and named it "Security". I then did a search for any folder/file named Cookie. Went to each of those folders and created a shortcut to the desktop and then dragged the shortcut into the Security folder. I then did the same thing with temporary files. I now have five shortcuts for temporary files and cookies in the Security folder. This gives me quick access to delete the cookies and temporary files. I also do what mikie suggested. Just as an aside, I've placed shortcuts in that Security folder for AdAware, AVG, SpyBot and other things I frequently use one of which is a nice little program that helps keeep my computer clean named Advanced WindowsCare, a piece of freeware from Jobit.com. >>"If another program left a temp file, it would no longer be temp. It would be permanent ... so how do you delete unwanted permanent files is what I want to know. And how would I know they're permanently unwanted ?" If they're in a "temp" folder, you can pretty much be sure they're no longer needed. It's typically a holding place for files used during an installation. But most install routines don't then remove them - they're just left there to accumulate. I suppose the case could be made that there's no harm in leaving them there - but do we really now that any better than the opposite. You can make the inverse case just as easily. And since there's no harm in emptying the temp file folders, I do it so as to minimize unknowns of interference or unnecessary space usage. I just do it along with emptying the Trash now and then, using CCleaner. There's no extra effort or downside. Anyway, do what makes you happy. Carolyn, I thought you just wanted to know how to clear some things out. What is the actual problem you are trying to solve by clearing a temp folder or cookies ?

Tabs, tabs, tabs! I usually have multiple tabs open, including Gmail. When I open the main forum page here I open all the threads that I want to read in separate tabs and close each one as I finish that thread. If I'm shopping on Amazon, Zappos, etc. I open each item that I want to look at in a separate tab. That makes it easy to go back and forth while I'm comparing them
