Sigh... I love blue...
Comments (3)There's nothing quite as cool-looking(temperaturewise) as BLUE flowers. I grew Phacelia a few years ago, best blue i ever saw, next to cornflowers. The bell-shaped blue flowers with icy-white anthers were beautiful, and stirred up images of cooler weather. They do have a short bloom time, hot weather just about stops the show, cutting back helps somewhat. Give 'em a try, i believe there are 2 or 3 varieties. Good luck, and enjoy....See MoreLooking for pics of Ice Age Trail seedlings
Comments (30)Maggiepie, the yellow holds quite a while, but about August, they start to turn chartreuse. There is a link to an article on freezing pollen on the lower left hand corner of the Hosta Library Home page. Pollen if kept dry is usually good for about a week at room temp in my experience. Frozen correctly, it can last a year or more. A few years ago I used quite a bit of refrigerated pollen and it lasts weeks to a couple of months, so you could potentially refrigerate pollen from IAT and use it. Might be easier to just watch the seed auctions on the Hosta Library this Fall and Winter and pick up some O.P. seed from a corrugated one you like, if that is what you are going for. Doug Beilstein's HostaWorks site has really inexpensive seeds for sale around Thanksgiving too. The streaked seedling in the ADG post, that someone mentioned came from Doug's seed. Faye, sorry you did not have any luck with the seeds I sent. Dan...See MoreAnyone have an extra, nice 'Ice Age Trail' for 'Winter Lightening'?
Comments (4)ken_adrian there used to be a Hosta trading forum on here but I no longer see it. I know there are the general plant exchange forums for trading any plants (e.g. I have cuttings of Forsythia, would like to trade for large rooted Tree Peonies or variegated banana plant"....). Anyway, I have included a photo for interest, and thought it would be seen by the most Hosta folks here. I am also a longtime and active member on the forums. However if this break rules, or this type of post is just annoying to you/people looking at the forum, let me know and I will gladly remove it....See MoreJune mimicking Ice Age Trail
Comments (10)Nicholsworth, June and IAT get at least six hours of sun, and this summer in Germany is a hot one and the sun is blazing. I'm amazed how they stand these conditions. I take care of watering them properly and the color of June is really nice and I think the hostas on the sunny side grow much quicker. ConnieMay, I got my IAT from a very good hosta friend who is paying close attention to his streakers and he would not send something that is not worth the money :-) I read that IAT is in a line from Big Daddy, a blue one, so yours might be slowly reverting. That's why I thought in the beginning that it might not stand sun so well, but nevertheless I tried and was rewarded with those great colors. Does yours get much sun? I will have to see what my IAT will be like through the years, normally I don't like streakers too much because of the attention they need to remove reverting eyes. But I fell in love with this one, passion overruled my scepticism......See Morehostas_for_barb
