My daughter's favorite group is Disturbed. Major heavy metal craziness. They did a remake of Simon and Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence. I have to say, it is amazingly beautiful. Here's is a link to the group performing the song on Conan

I've heard this on on the radio a lot lately. That and Marilyn Manson's cover of "Sweet Dream (are made of these)." They remind me of each other. Disturbed appears to be less disturbing. Lol!

I know! They definitely did justice to the song. The guy has a great voice. Loved the symphony music combined with the metal voice haha.

I've been wondering - what your thoughts on Rick Bragg's work you had to read for class? I haven't met very many people who have read his books so I'm interested to know how you felt about it. Another successful day of planting! Jack helped by making paw shaped holes for my bulbs and chasing squirrels. :) Today I planted tulips Andre Rieu, Darwin mix, Triumph mix, Rose/pink mix,and a white blend. I also planted Muscari, Alium Molly and Crocus mix. How to reduce sound from hose bibb?

Do you have an idea how old the hose bib is? Sometimes older valves can vibrate in the stem as the water goes past the washer. The sound telegraphs through the plumbing. Tightening the packing nut on those older faucets would usually solve the problem.

The sounds of birds calling to each other at dusk. The wood burning and crackling in our fireplace insert. Our DS coming in the front door (he lives next door) and saying, "Hel-lo" in his very distinct way. The sound of DH snoring...I agree with Cheryl. It's a very comforting and familiar sound. Our dog Tootie, when she' ready for breakfast or dinner. She makes a little "yip" a number of times in succession. And she does this while her little tail is curled tight and she's dancing around in a circle (she's a pug). The unusual meow that our cat Bitsy makes when she's looking for some love. Kind of a "mrch-e-ow". The way our cat Bundles purrs like she's an instrument in an orchestra. She is loud! The sound of the electric kettle when it's ready to boil. Tea time ;o) The quiet when I'm the only one up early in the morning. I love to sit at the kitchen table with my coffee and gaze out the window.

I realize I'm a rather "strange" 63-year old because I happen to like Disturbed's music (Heavy Metal is just one genre of music I share with my 44-year old daughter and 20-year old granddaughter). The Sound of Silence by them just went on my all time favorites list and I sent the link to my daughter. Thanks for sharing. :-)

I first heard this a few weeks ago and have become a fan of Disturbed's music, as a body of work.

I saw Paul Simon in concert last Saturday, by the way. Prior to performing Sound of Silence, he mentioned Disturbed's cover. Raved about it, actually, urged everyone to listen to it. He called it powerful and inspired.

My son showed this video to me a few weeks ago with this video. It is a little bit more edgy than the Conan video. His voice is amazing.

Never heard of the group but as a huge S&G fan for five decades it was a nice rendition. This was music that made sense.

Incredible voice, the orchestra really made it have such presence. We both really enjoyed that. I too like a very broad range of music including some that not the usual for my age lol. I have to keep my rebel spirit somehow.

I love a good kettle drum!

I used to love Disturbed! Thanks for the reminder, I think I'll pull them up on my Ipod. That was a great rendition, I also got chills. I am not much of a techie, and my husband told me they don't even make Ipods anymore! go figure.

Went back and listened to "Down with the Sickness". This was the album of Disturbed I listened to. It is a graphic depiction of child abuse, can really feel the anger in the song.

My kids are fans. I like this song, but most of their music gives me a headache. Hours and hours of it in a closed in car. lol
