Kindle Fire battery died-replace or repair?

Per subject, when my Kindle Fire (8.9") battery gave up the ghost almost 4 years after purchase, I thought I would just go to Batteries Plus and have them pop in a new one. But when I went online to see the cost....turns out it will set me back $90. Yikes, wasn't expecting that and that in turn sent me to Amazon where I discovered I can get a brand new Kindle Fire 8" model which is half the weight of mine and undoubtedly more souped up than my toddler model for $150.

Anybody ever changed a Kindle battery? Should I just bite the bullet, pay another $70 and get a new one? Decisions, decisions. Of course there is also the bigger screen Kindle which is $230. Or just getting a non-Kindle tablet. I need some tech experience insight please!!
