Hide or paint stones on the front of a house. Remodeling project.
Comments (31)Actually I think I just found the way. In Europe we use lime very commonly. It is very inexpensive. Environmentally friendly. Easy to use when we get the right consistance. And it is ised for that purpose! It seems to be complicayed to find in the US. Or very expensive! But from my research the equivalent is type s lime to mix with water and eventually pigments or paint if we want to add color. I saw a house the other day with the same stones and I am pretty sure that what they did. I took a picture from the car. (The stones around the door). Quite a few houses on that street have the same stones as mine. So my guess is that these people made a white wash on theirs H#me d#pot nd big stores like that do not carry lime (except the kind for gardening purposes). I'll try the "around the corner" store. If not I found some On amaz#on but very expensive with expensive shipping! But overall still way cheaper than anything else (just I find silly to pay $40 for a 50lb bag when it really cost $10) My father is still here and he has already used lime many times so he knows how to mix it. But I will do the work. The wall is facing south. It is 90 degrees . Even I will have to work early in the morning. Can't have him to that in the sun!! PS I am not talking about hot burning lime here. Simply hydrated lime used in construction. Can't wait to do it!...See MoreHow to hide ugly pole in front yard?
Comments (11)As others have said, check with your local utility and municipality to find out what is allowed. I know around here one isn't allowed to put anything on the poles themselves or use the poles or guy wires for support of plants. My solution was to plant a large shrub at the base that is one that can be cut to the ground if needed. At eye level one just sees the shrub since it totally surrounds the yellow part of the wire, and the upper gray metal part isn't especially visible. No one can walk into the wire, we don't need to mow or trim around the obstacle, and there are spring flowers and fall color....See MorePlease help me make this house presentable - Paint? Stone?
Comments (5)Apple Pie and Grapefruit:- I had a painter come by yesterday to give me his opinion about power washing the paint off the brick. He said it wouldn't come off. He said he would powerwash to get the peeling paint off and then repaint to freshen it up. I thought about a lighter beige to paint the stone but didn't know about the rest of the house. So much of the roof shows with this style. I don't know if I can picture a red or green door. I'll try googling those. Thanks for your help. I will definitely remove those bushes in front of the house. They probably hide some more rotted wood - UGH . My daughter is getting married in September so I'm trying to make it look better........See MoreClever (not obvious) way to hide a well head in front yard?
Comments (8)Have a well pump company come and cut the well head down. I had one in my yard that my idiot builder left at 34”. The company that installed the pump came out and did it for nothing. It is now 12 inches high which will make it much easier to hide. Most codes are around 8 inches. I’d recommend going as low as code allows. You can think in terms of the landscaping around it. You could I corporate a smaller sized boulder to help hide it from view as guests walk toward your door (if that’s the case). Make a small bedding area and incorporate some ornamental grasses with some color like annuals or perennials. I think you can find some nice ornamental grasses that grow shorter than pampas grasses (they grow very tall and would most likely look weird being that tall right in front anyway. My we’ll head is in the middle of my yard so I have a fescue lawn so I painted it a darker grass green to help it blend in. I’ll be planting some grasses and using some boulders and a shallow rooting tree to help it not be so conspicuous. Look on Pinterest and other places for ideas and just be creative. You can use a wire brush drill attachment to knock off the rust if there is some on the well head. Then paint it to match the grass or mulch or gray boulder or whatever. Your not going to make it disappear but you can keep it from standing out. Again be creative. Try something and if it doesn’t work, try something else!!! Good luck...See Moretorreykm
