Hi Mary, In doing some research, it's my understanding that any film-forming sealer will attract more heat. The penetrating sealers, whether they be water or solvent based, are better around water. I've been looking at the Miracle line of sealers, specifically the 511 Porous Plus, and have just ordered samples from a company called Aldon. There is however, another slew of products that use additives for slip resistance, ie..sand or the like. I was overwhelmed when trying to figure those out, lol! Another way to decrease the heat would be to sandblast the surface. With less surface area due to holes/indentations, there is less heat when you're standing barefoot. I will most likely find a happy medium as I can choose the level of sandblasting when the casting is done. I would advise to be careful with the film forming sealers. And anything with gloss will make the surface hotter and possibly slippery, unless you are using an additive, which if I'm correct, are used in epoxy coatings mostly. I was told to stay away from those by my paver installers. Hope this helps, I'm by no means an expert, but have been trying to find as much info as I can before these go in. I bought polymeric sand at my local garden center. They are also a Techo-Bloc dealer, so it makes sense that they'd sell stuff like the sand. I'm sure you can find a garden center like that in your area. It comes in a large bag (I think mine was 50lbs) and spreads on like regular sand, but then you hose it down and the water activates the binders, turning it almost like cement. But as "neilaz" pointed out, since you already have sand down, you might be better off with the stabilizer. Not sure if garden centers carry that or not.

I don't really know how it works under heavy rain conditions. After rising the corner that gave me trouble now I am waiting for the stars to allign (that means a weekend without rain) so I can fill the joints with sand and run a plate compactor over pavers. (is this OK if I do not cover the plate with rubber?) Only after I am done with this I will have to see how it works under rain conditions. For now I am covering everything with a tarp because I did not put the sand in yet. Before the lowest point of the patio was on the opposite edge and there I had cement between the wall and the bricks. It did not help... i would like to slope the last line of pavers (this line is parallel with the concrete blocks) in such a way that it will form a channel See the "blued" brick below

As I mentioned on another discussion thread, I have a client, Go Pavers, with a sister company, Paverwash.com and we recently had discussions not only about power washing pavers (and the damage that can be done when someone doesn't know what they are doing) but sealers as well. One of the guys was discussing a client’s paver sealing nightmare when an inexperienced company used the wrong sealers on their expensive new driveway. At any rate, the upshot of the conversation was that a good sealers will protect the pavers, and your investment, and it’s a good idea to have it done.
