Microwave Landing Space?
Comments (26)Cpartist, you should have returned your faulty Simply Human trash can. I've had mine now for 10 years - so has my DD. Both still work perfectly and hers must endure the "delicate" touch of her DH and her two boys! I sweep most things directly into my kitchen sink. If it's other stuff nearer the trash can, I can sweep things directly into it, too. If one is doing a new build or has such an enormous kitchen that one is not limited to a small under--the-sink trash can, then a built in might work. I've just seen far too many that ended up overflowing (no one empties a kitchen trash can just like no one replace the toilet paper roll!) and there was a smelly mess inside. I don't like anyone in my kitchen when I'm cooking or doing the last preparations for a meal. It's very distracting to me. And I do NOT feel like a servant, shut away, but then that's me. Interestingly, my DD feels the same way - shoes everyone out of her kitchen to the LR - says she cannot cook and also be the charming hostess. She's the only one of her friends with a separate kitchen, but then she's also the only one of her friends who truly cooks and does it very well. She's a total foodie......See MoreMicrowave to squeeze inside a 21" cabinet or 21" wall space?
Comments (25)Double check your refrigerator -- since it's not a true built-in refrigerator, it will need filler or space b/w it and the wall. For non-built-in refrigerators, the refrigerator doors (and handles) must extend out past all adjacent items to be able to open fully without having to pull the refrigerator out -- walls, counters, cabinets, etc. How much space/filler? It depends on the how deep the the deepest adjacent item is. Needed filler can range from 4" to 12". In your case, I think you will need 8 or 9 inches. Usually, a tall pullout cabinet is put b/w the wall and refrigerator in these cases. Sometimes, a base cabinet + upper cabinet are used, but only if the space is at least 18" wide. The narrower tall cabinet can be used as a utility cabinet for broom, etc. This type of utility cabinet usually doesn't need to be any wider (interior) than 4 or 5 inches....See MoreKitchen Design w/ Awkward Window

Comments (13)I would definitely cover it up. Since you have so few lower cabinets, consider an 18" dishwasher so you can change your 12" base next to it to an 18" and make both it and the 9" drawer bases. You'll get more storage space and the 18" base will be large enough to put some pots and pans into. You might also consider going to a 33" counter depth refrigerator so you can make the 9" cabinet into a 12" drawer base. What are the plans for accessing the blind corner cabinet?...See More- 8 years agolast modified: 8 years ago
