Maple trees and winter moths

I have two large (about 70-80ft) maple trees in my backyard in Massachusetts. Clearly a very old but otherwise have been healthy. Winter moths have taken a toll on them the past two years and this year more so. Many of the leaves are either littered with holes or sole branches are thinner and close to defoliation. My question is - what are the chances winter moths could kill and destroy these trees, especially being so old and but large? What can I do to store future infestations? I've read about sprays but these trees are so large I wonder how effective (and possible) this could be?

thanks!
