Temps on Long Island NY at night (May 2016) as low as 43

I have tomato seedlings (Pink Tie Dye Berkeley) that I started in March indoors. I am itching to get them out into my raised bed wooden container (It's a VegTrug). They're starting as of a few days ago to look a little spindly, still healthy though. My question is when can I plant them? I read that temps at night should be 55 and above before planting. The next week's forecast is 43 at night, a couple of nights at 49, 53 and then finally 62. Are these temps too cold? I read (I'm fairly new at this) that one is supposed to remove the lower leaves and plant them up to about an inch of the plant. Perhaps that will protect them....Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
