I found New York's statute: Residents and snow removal businesses should be aware that the plowing or dumping of snow onto handicapped parking spots is illegal under section 1203-e of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. Fines of up to $100 can be issued for each offense. Unfortunately and for reasons unknown, handicapped spots often are used as a repository for mounds of snow in parking lots both big and small. Maybe some doing the plowing think "nobody disabled will be out in this weather" ; but those with disabilities, just like the able-bodied are out and about their daily routines��.. NO SNOW DAY��.. But in too many locations�. NO PARKING. It is important to remind everyone that accessibility is the law�..not an option... from what I read on a google site the height is gained backed by removing the particle pulverizer/catcher part. It said it'd need to be removed by hand. the other thing it mentioned was height of controls - being not over 48" from the floor. that sounds like for someone in a wheelchair. I'm disabled and if I were redoing my kitchen (and had the money) I'd put in dish drawers. Maybe just 1 because I'd probably seldom use the bottom one. the other option would be to put in a raised dw - that'd involve moving plumbing for me. check out what ADA means in the brand your mom would like - in case it changes from one to another.

I think shelayne is mistaken. Below is photo from the Miele brochure comparing ADA and non ADA dishwashers. You can see in the ADA the middle tray is seriously compromised. You can't even fit a dinner tray on that. So I wonder if it's better to get an ADA without a cutlery tray to increase the usability of the top tray. Or if I should get an ADA with a cutlery tray and a limited middle rack. I've never had a dw with a cutlery tray so I don't know how useful it is but it sounds like a great feature to have. Not sure if it's great enough to compromise the tray below it though. So I need to decide if I'm going to get an ADA dw with or without a cutlery tray? Thoughts? Advice? Suggestions? HELP! :-)

mark is just muddying the waters. A Miele ( the company that invented it) cutlery tray is the same in both ADA and reg. DWs. IF , note I said IF, you go with an ADA model then the height in the MIDDLE basket is reduced somewhat but everything else is the same. but...................... It may make no difference to you in the real world. I have crate @ barrel everyday dishes that are 10 1/2" tall and they fit in my mieleADA dishwashers just fine and still allow a pint glass or Tervis Tunbler to fit in the middle basket just fine. I can even get champagne flutes in there if I lean them on the folding stemware tines. And guess what - them get clean ! It really only makes a diff to a very small section of the dish buying public and those OCD specification sheet collectors. Now, we could have another discussion about the merits of the third or cutlery tray , but I think there are already a couple of those around here already. The pertinent point is that now that Miele's patent has expired all the high level players have gone to to that arrangement. That should tell you what you need to know.
