Gray is dead to me. What's the next "it" color palette? #seasaltsucks
Comments (71)You can definitely do better on that Kitchen quote with Ikea cabinets and butcher block countertops. Ikea has two real wood doors that would look nice in an old house: Torhamn and Lerhyttan. They also have a veneer door, Ekestad, that looks MCM-ish. You'd probably be looking at $4000 for Torhamn /Lerhyttan cabinets and $1000 for the butcher block. You might also want to look at Barker Cabinets, a line of custom made, ready to assemble wood cabinets for reasonable prices ( that's what I'm planning on using for my own kitchen). You can look up "Half Classic Six" blog for an example of a nice kitchen done with Barker. Barker would probably be $6000-$8000 depending on which door style and how many drawers vs. doors. Comments (17)Molly D- I'm so glad to see your house- cocoon is a color we keep going back to for the main house color- I think I want to do a tone on tone trim color so I'll look at hardware for the trim maybe. Your house is beautiful thank you. Grand Finale Design thank you for the suggestion- I will look at that resource. Here are our first round of roof color choices and a photo of the color of stones we are doing the porch and front columns in- thoughts anyone? The front of the house will have stone and beam columns like the photo above- porch floor and steps will be stone - gray and brown colors Emmarrene- you bring up a great point- if you look at our house plan the roof is equal or more area than the siding- it's color is going to be a huge factor. Thank you! This is our first build so I am learning as we go along. I really appreciate everyone's help and advice!...See MorePaint Palette Suggestions for 80s Contemprary Vermont Chalet
Comments (24)Christina, I wish I was closer to you, but I am in Pennsylvania. I love picking colors and figuring out color pallets and the challenge of finding those perfect combinations that all work together. Warm and cool should both be present in your home - think of the spring flowers look with the yellows and pinks and purples and greens. It's just a matter of toning down the colors (neutralizing) and finding just the right shade of each color to make them work together. What I am seeing is that the white that is currently on the walls has a yellow undertone. It works with the kitchen floor, but not with anything else and really pronounces the pink in the carpet. You can't test the colors that you want against this yellow white. It is going to make things appear way different than if you have a full wall painted. Buy a large white poster board, foam core board or even a scrap piece of drywall. Go to Michael's/ hobby lobby and pick up 140 lb water color paper. For testing neutrals I like to use a 12x18 sample, but you could also get the 9x12 paper and paint 2 sheets with each color. Paint the water color paper with your samples (Tape the edges down on a cookie sheet or large piece of cardboard using painters tape, paint 2 coats (let it dry between coats) (I use disposable foam rollers from the dollar store for this step and just toss them out when I am done). The paper is heavy enough that you don't get much warping. If it does warp a bit you can lay a sheet of parchment paper over it and iron it flat. Go to BM and get the following 3 samples: The custom mix taupe that I am using (the formula is for a quart, so they will need to cut it in half The other 2 samples they can look up in their color system - they are all from a company that was bought out and eliminated by Valspar/Sherwin Williams, but the woman who created the colors was a master of subtle neutrals. The company is Devine Color. The colors that I would try are Devine Latte and Devine Glass I think one of these three will work for you with the pink beige carpet, the yellow wood flooring and the blue greens/purple grays in the slate. Tape the samples to your board and sit in each room and look at it at different times of the day and on different walls. Lighting can make a huge difference in the way a color appears. Take pictures of the board and post with notes on what you like/don't like and between Beth, Judy, Flo, me and a few other regular posters we can help you tweak the colors till you have exactly what you want....See MoreHow do you find paint palette for exterior when half brick?
Comments (31)Nice house. The ?taupe? color shown work really well. Or you could use a shade darker brown. The white trim works well for either. You do want the garage door and the garage trim to be the same color as the siding. You want your front entry door to be the focal point of the front of your home -- NOT your garage door. Would not complicate the fascia/trim at the peak of the forward facing gable over the garage only to leave the large blank space between it and the garage door, though you could add a practical triangle attic vent there. If you add "trim" without purpose to a gable, add it to every gable. If you don't like that large a blank wall space above the garage door, you could add a window (or two) or even faux window. and/or vertical trim https://www.lowes.com/n/buying-guide/exterior-paint-buying-guide and/or vertical with horizontal that, together, shrinks the space -- or something else in the middle of the space. https://www.etsy.com/listing/800927252/tree-of-life-metal-sign-metal-wall-art?ref=pla_similar_listing_top-2&pro=1&frs=1...See More- 8 years ago
