Comments (40)I was surprised to see this back up again...it has been awhile since I had posted! But anyway we still haven't picked yet. But after visiting every tile store and ordering multiple samples off the internet, I THINK we are leaning toward going forward with the black subway and glass. My husband did make a mock-up right after I last posted and I think it looked beautiful with the granite but I still wasn't sure about how dark the kitchen would be or, as Caroleoh pointed out, if the style was right. But we haven't found anything else that really calls to us and we keep finding ourselves coming back to it. I have had the mock-up sitting next to the stove since he made it and the glossy tile really does reflect back the light and the overall look may not be as dark as I think. I will try to get a picture tomorrow when the light is better and post it to see what you think. I also have 3 more samples coming in the mail Monday (including a black glass subway) but I am thinking if none of those work, we will go for it. As far as style, I wish I knew what I wanted! I am having that problem throughout the house. That is part of the problem. I have leaned toward traditional in the past but the few new purchases I have made for the house have seemed to be more contemporary so now I have this hodge podge thing going on...and then I will pick up a decorating magazine and see a well done cottage room and drool over that as well. Right now I have 5 colors painted on the greatroom wall...sigh... Anyway the table and bar stools came from JC Penney catalog. We wanted a counter height table set for the breakfast but needed bar height for the stools and wanted them all to match. None of the local furniture stores had that available but I just happened to find the set on closeout PLUS free shipping even though it was heavy furniture. It was a great deal and we are happy with the quality. Thanks for all the help and bringing this back up again. Can I post all my other rooms too for help???!!! :)...See MoreWee backsplash help - ABB
Comments (8)Ooh, that is so pretty! Especially with that vein! Ah! My stone has a mitered edge and also a mitered edge on the bar top like where you have your gorgeous wood. If I'd thought I was going to do the shiplap when I started with the counters I might have thought to go your route. Alas, I didn't plan it all out it just evolved. It does make me wonder though. I've also been thinking about doing something with calcatta gold which I find has the same colors. Also, I got a sample of imperial danby and wonder if it could work. I find so many of the tiles to feel harsh but find the stone to look softer. Maybe that sounds crazy.. Your stone is just gorgeous!...See MoreBacksplash tile ---why not painted wood molding as liner?
Comments (20)Hi Eustacem, Green Demolitions could not have been better to work with. I live in Michigan, though, and their closest store is in Pennsylvania, near Lancaster. I had my eye on this kitchen online for several weeks before a price was assigned to it. I watched it come down to a price I was willing to pay and I called. I had called earlier about a couple of other kitchens. I was even considering two different kitchens at two different stores that I would have combined to make my one kitchen. Whenever I called, the workers were able to walk to the kitchen I was asking about and do my measurements right then. When I called about the one I ended up buying, the worker went over to it and answered my questions honestly. He said that it seemed really solid, needed clean-up, but had a lot of features for the price. He was even able to tell me what size truck to rent to get it home. In the end, I hired the son of a friend of a friend to fly to Connecticut. I had the guy at the Budget Rent-a-Truck place pick him up at Hartford (he did it for free!), and then my guy drove to the store in Norwalk. The store staff did much of the loading and helped him tie it all in. It arrived safe and sound here the next morning. Green Demolitions will not tell you this, but each item in my kitchen had a price listed on my receipt. It almost seems that I could have said "I don't want the counters, sink, cooktop or hood" and maybe they might have taken some of the price off. But maybe not. What would they do with a 23 year-old greasy downdraft vent? I know how old the cabs are because their original manufacturing paperwork is stapled to the back of many of the cabs. They were made for a certain design shop in August 1987. I think the family name is on my paperwork, so that is rather cool. Be sure to look for quality cabs if you do shop at GD. Mine are Quakermaid. My kitchen is the "Quakermaid Butcherblock and Beadboard Kitchen," almost halfway down the photos in the "sold" tab under the main "Kitchens" heading. Comments (47)senator13; I loved your kitchen all of it. I have been looking for several years for a way to install an apron front sink in my existing laminate countertops. I'm not talking about the Ikea Djomso sink. I've been looking at the Kohler Dickinson. And I was so excited when I came across yours. How did you ensure that the the laminate edges that butt up against the sink are waterproof? Please share any secrets/tricks that made it possible. Also how is it after this amount of time? I have an extremely busy kitchen in a family of 8. Thank you so much, I look forward to hearing from you....See MoreFori
