Comments (2)You make some good points, however I don't believe the vent free alliance is an evil org. that only cares about profits at the expense of customers health. I believe that they feel their products are safe and there is a lot of hype about them and they are just trying to get some facts out there. I would not recommend vent free as a primary sourse of heat, however I have found my blue flame wall heater as an exellent compliment to my woodstove to offset the air drying effect of the woodstove. The house is not very air tight and perhaps I wouldn't feel so comfortable running it if the house was very airtight. The oxygen sensor is pretty foolproof in my opinion, the pilot flame will change it's angle in a low oxygen enviroment and the pilot will go out, not sure how it could malfunction as there are no moving parts. BTW if someone is a smoker, any concerns over vent free would be silly, as the harmful things inhaled from a V/F would pale compared to what comes from ciggies....See MoreAnother dentist question
Comments (18)In the case of large employer plans, insurance companies often do little more than administer coverage alternatives that are chosen BY THE EMPLOYER or by them jointly with consultants working with the employer on cost management. Every insurance company can administer any kind of converge, whether generous or stingy. It may be that the coverage in your area is limited to this one group because the insurance company's contract with this one group was at lower costs than other alternatives. it sounds like you have a valid gripe but who you should direct your concerns to is the HR department of the sponsoring employer. The insurance company more likely than not is simply doing what they were told to do. As far as plan communications is concerned, I think you're entitled under law to receive written material and access to a resources to address coverage questions. Do you live in a small town? Or are you in or near an urban area? There should be no limitations on services simply because of the limitations of the contracted group. Comments (52)Well, I went to my dental appointment yesterday, that I had scheduled back in December. Here’s how it went down: 3 weeks ago, they called to confirm my appointment, we assured each other we had not had symptoms of, been diagnosed with, or been in contact with someone diagnosed, with Covid. They told me all their new procedures. 2 days before, they sent me an electronic confirmation and form to fill out about my Covid status like they did 3 weeks ago. 1 day before, because I hadn’t really read the email and filled out the form, they called to remind me and to get my credit card number to pay in advance, if I wanted. I did, and I filled out the form. 6 hours before, they sent me the digital form again to fill out. 0 hour, per their instructions, I entered the empty waiting room not a moment before or after my scheduled time. The hygienist was waiting, masked. In the chair, I rinsed 30 seconds with a hydrogen peroxide and water solution, spit into a cup that was promptly disposed of in hazardous waste. Didn’t spit into the little chair-side sink. I took off my glasses (as I usually do) and she gave me goggles. She took my temperature. The hygienist put on her face shield. She also wore glasses, and needed flip-up goggles with “loupes” on them for close work. Poor thing, there were at least 5 layers between her eyes and mine. She positioned a “pressure machine” that I guess worked like a shop vac (sounded like one) to suck up any droplets. The instruments were...I can’t remember, they told me three weeks ago, but some were disposable and some went through an intense process with days between uses. The rest of the appointment went as normal. When I left, the receptionist slipped me my receipt under the plexiglass shield at the desk. I felt comfortable. One thing I noticed: no magazines in the waiting room, since no one will be waiting in there for a good while. This will probably kill the print magazine industry, which was already struggling, and which was recently hurting from the drop in advertising. And for those of us who still get print magazines, where will we take them when we finish with them? Comments (19)My personal experience having had a dental emergency 3 weeks ago. I would first check your state and county dashboard and how easy it is to get tested. Our numbers are way down in NYState and densely packed NYC. Masks are required by law. (just announced 20 minutes ago, effective at midnight, 9 states are not allowed in NY, NJ and Conn with out quarantine for 14 days). That said, how hard to enforce is questionable, but might discourage travelers while we return to the new normal here....opening up carefully. The dental. All forms were filled out online. Another form and office protocols were well documented/explained on-line. Wait in car until called. (office door locked). One patient at a time. New HVac filter system installed. I counted three air purifiers running with the UVc tube filter. Receptionist, two assistants, Surgeon, all wearing masks and face shields. Self stick one-use temp I placed on my forehead. I had to sign something coming in. Handed me a pen and said keep it, its yours. Used it signing out. If I was in a state with numbers rising and two dental appointments in the same room...no way would I take the chance. All deliveries at home are mask wearing and leave packages 10 or more feet from either door. On-line ordering insists that no home doors be opened without masking. Even though we are moving phase three, most in my county are sticking with curbside for a while. No signatures required. Most stores opening this week have installed locked door buzzer entry. No mask, no entry. Testing is important to us. I can get tested tomorrow with an appointment. Stay in car and call. Urgent Care door is locked. They come out to you for the test. Many drive-thru available. I'm from an extended family of scientists, professors, doctors, nurses, a dentist, etc. Those spending the entire day, day after day, running around the web posting their 'no mask' opinions are embarrassingly insulting, self-centered, socially unacceptable covidiots.
