About 3 years, not too pretty either!

Have "dead" gas grill sitting on my deck. Bought it about 3 years ago at end of season from one of the big home stores... like $99. Around this time last year, first time I decided to grill, discovered that some CRITTER had gnawed thru the gas line! Then discovered that tho made in USA, the "universal" replacement part did not fit. I contacted manufacturer and they would gladly supply me with a replacement part for something like $59.99 PLUS S&H... for a $99 grill??

Have been cooking on charcoal ever since... just haven't hauled old gas grill to the curb?!? I KNOW it'll disappear before trash day rolls around when I do.

For flavor I prefer charcoal, for convenience and speed... it's propane for me.

I bought one at the end of the year. Haven't fired it up yet. I prefer charcoal. I also bought a Weber kettle for the the first time. Figure for just the two of us I can also use it as a mini smoker.

I bought the gas one for the convenience. My last one was many years ago. It was an inexpensive one but it had the lava rock. When it died we didn't replace it because the grills now don't seem to use the rock and have gone to heat plates instead. May as well just use my broiler IMO. But I'm giving it a try for convenience. I can use smoking chips for flavor.

Mine is probably 20 years old. It is in bad shape. I used it couple times last year but held my breath every time I lit it. I don't know why I risked burning my face off to grill to some chicken. They have gotten so much more expensive and the quality is not as good as my old one, but I better get one!

Mines stainless steel, pretty and about 6 years old. Every year I spray paint the side tables on it black.

We have stainless steel, too; at least 8 years old. It still looks great, and we don't even bother to cover it anymore. We have had to replace the burners though. We use the barbecue a lot.

Mine is 13 years old. Last month I replaced the burner for $12 bucks. Now it's good as new, ugly but works.

We use a Weber.....can't abide the flavor that gas gives to food. A coal starting chimney reduces the 'inconvenience' to about ten minutes, if that. I prefer Kingsford competition style briquettes, which have none of that chemical smell common to most brands.

We've had this Weber for 13 years; Robert reminded me that we bought it for our first anniversary! It is still in great condition though we use it so often.

Ours (gas) is just about 3 1/2 years old, and we use it year round. It looks brand new, never sits out in the weather when not in use, its rolled back into the garage. But DH is still telling me he's interested in the new mid-size Kitchen Aid gas grill, it's a little smaller and higher BTUs. He doesn't think this one (I couldn't tell you the brand but was approx. $200) has enough BTUs to really sear. But still, he cooks on it at least twice a week, 52 weeks of the year, possible with the deep overhang of the roof line of this house.

Ours is probably 25 years old and hasn't been used in 10-12 years. It's too much trouble in every way. It sits on the patio with the black plastic cover on it.

Didn't want to move the old one on our way to Florida. Put it at the curb. Bought a new one in March. Still looking good.

MIne was nearly 5 y/o and I had already replaced several parts so it needed new grates again so I got a new one. We used it for the first time tonight. I also have a charcoal grill that still works great and my SIL usually likes to use it. I like the gas for when I am just cooking for myself. The new grill was only about $50 more than the old one and much bigger and nicer.

Julie, no one uses charcoal starter anymore. Hopefully. YUK! That stuff is totally unnecessary if you use a Charcoal Chimney, one sheet of newspaper, and a match. :-)

I think the last time I saw it used was thirty or more years ago. Really, no special briquettes are needed, no toxic starter fluids, nothing like that at all.

It's 10. SO has replaced a number of internal parts over the years. He said it doesn't pay to cheap out on parts.

I think mine is about 8 or 9 years old. Earlier this year I went to use it for the first time and discovered that a mouse had built a nest right on top the burner, which trapped "moisture" against the tubes leading to the burner, and rusted them completely. Also the heat/drip shield had rusted loose, and the grates were not in very good shape. I ordered replacement parts for all three making sure to get stainless steel versions so these should last longer.

I think the original grill was about $400, and the replacement parts were $150, so some argument could have been made to discard the old unit and get a better one. but I think this was a more economical and ecological solution.

The company I ordered from was grill-parts.com and the parts arrived promptly and fit, and work better than the originals.

Mine is stainless - all parts are stainless. I have had it 10 years, it still looks good. It stays out in the weather all year in Seattle.

I think this one has been here about 3 years. Cheryl and Kevin got it free when they purchased some patio furniture. It is not a big one and once in awhile when they are here they cook burgers or hot dogs on it. I have never used it. Used to have a Weber Kettle grill. Do have a tiny one you probably have to set on a table, never used that one either.

We have a Weber Platinum Gas Grill (propane). We've had it for 10 years. We bought it used (maybe 2 - 3 years old at that time). It doesn't look pretty, but still very functional! We use a lighter since the ignition is shot and we didn't replace. About 3 years ago, we gave up on covering it, so it gets a lot of abuse! We use it a few times a month when the weather permits. I live in MN. I think it has at least another 3 - 5 years left.

We just bought a new grill, Weber Summit with natural gas line as I want to be able to cook outside more often and not run out of propane.

Ours is 10 YO and all stainless and in excellent shape. We don't use it much and keep it covered all year on the deck in CA. We even use it during the winter and clean it every time we use it. I prefer charcoal but DH, who does the grilling, likes gas.

We've had a Q-Grill (uses a small canister of propane) for 17-years and a Cobb Grill (charcoal) for 15-years. We only grill a few times a year, so they will last us the rest of our lives.

We had one for 20 years that was great, until it wasn't. Replaced it with a cheap BJ's grill that lasted 4+ years with replacement parts. Finally, last year we splurged on a Weber. Hopefully, it lasts us a LONG time. We use our grill often, and even in the cold winter, but keep it covered.
