It is (was) a juniper. Unfortunately it is gone now. For future reference it needs to be outdoors all the time. It needs that winter dormancy but being in a pot it also needs some protection like an unheated garage/shed. During spring to fall it should be out in the sun. They like to be on the dry side.

Thank you. I had purchased it for someone who wasn't a fan of putting it outside. But I'll try to take it out, ensure the soil is not so wet...trim any rotting roots and see if I can revive it.

Its been dead a month or more, the brown slowly. Get a ficus for inside.
