Name That Plant!

Please help identify species of Iris

Does anyone recognize the species of this Iris? Not sure if it was a pass-along plant or one that I grew from seed. It grows about a foot tall, blooms in my Zone 8a coastal garden in late April or early May. It is beardless. My mom also has it growing in her Zone 6 garden, so it's hardy. Sorry for the quality of the pics--it was raining when these were taken. All input appreciated.

Im not sure of the technical name, but i have heard it be called dwarf iris :-)

This iris is SPIN-OFF. I introduced it in 1987. If you go to GOOGLE, then MORE and choose Google Images and type in [spin-off + iris] you can see several images of it. Thanks friends, it does seem to match the photo of I. orientalis exactly. I'll add that name to my personal plant list. Does the foliage stay nice throughout the season or do I need to hide it behind something else? - Steve

I think Irises are some of the hardest of plants to identify, I've posted about a half dozen over the years and even though they are very different from each other the only answer I ever get is Siberian. You might try on the Iris forum although you might need patience as it's a slower forum. Good luck!
