Will LED lights change the color of our cabinet color?

Here I go again, second guessing myself.

I spent a couple of weeks looking at my large sample boards of white paint for our kitchen cabinets.

I chose "Simply White" - after comparing to Cloud White and White Dove. I liked this the best, as it seemed the least yellowish and most bright of the three.

A friend of a friend (who is helping me with my tile) came over the other day and I still had the paint board up. She is good with color and said that it was reading "pink". Problem is, the paint has been ordered and it's expensive (some kind of Italian paint).

We are switching out all of our recessed lights to LED. So, I'm wondering if this will help, or hurt. The kitchen is the northwest part of the house. Doesn't get a ton of light, so we depend on the ambient light. Could it be that the regular bulbs were part of the issue with the pinkish hue? Or the fact that the paint board is up against our dark cherry cabinets? Of course, now that she said it, I see pink.

I really hate this - and I feel like I'm going to cry.

Lighting always changes colors. It changes cabinet color, anything. LED is a cleaner light. I find it washes color out some compared to the warm incandescent we are used to. If you have the sample board next to Cherry cabinets, they will be reflecting on it so could be the pink you are seeing. The Cherry cabinet color will be bouncing around the room, along with all the other colors that are in there. Even trees from outside affect the light. Environment is very important in evaluating colors.

I have Simply White on the woodwork throughout my house. I have LED, halogen, fluorescent, and incandescent bulbs, and nowhere does it appear at all pink.

"Any chance a modern dimmer meant for LEDs would correct the tone when dimmed?" Unlikely. The multiple different colored LEDs used to create the light do not behave equally when dimmed. They are normally balanced at full intensity to create an apparent color temperature, but any change in brightness will throw the balancing off.

LED lights are lots of fun to have and are the best energy savers. The Hayward ColorLogic is a good choice as is the Pentair IntelliBrite. I have built pools with both of those. I like the Pentair version best; it is ECO Friendly with over 30,000 hours of operation compared to only 5,000 hours for a traditional incandescent bulb. I really try to encourage my customers to upgrade to it, because the people who do get it love it so much. One word of caution...if you are looking for a pure white light, then don't go with a LED light. The "white" in LED is a little yellowish.

I am having my original 500 watt lights pulled this spring and replaced with color changing LEDs. I am paying $2355 for the lights and labor. I also didn't have it done when the pool was being built because my budget was bursting at the seams! They don't even have to drain the pool. I didn't know that either. They are doing it on the day they open it. The company I am using seems to be on the expensive side so you might be able to get it done for less. We also looked into automating the lights, heater, and pump (controlling everything from your phone or iPad). Something you can also do down the road. Not doing it right now, but maybe later in the season or next year.

This is the diffuser and channel I use. The biggest difference in quality is the color consistency between rolls of light. That is, if you're using more than one roll of lights, you might want a better light as the colors could be off between rolls of cheaper light. If you're using less than one roll, it shouldn't matter.

Use a dimmer to control the LED lighting.

Definitely will. I am having a hard time finding a grey rug that will stay grey in my bathroom because of the lighting and the cherry vanity. I have changed light bulbs and it still didnt help.

This has nothing to do with light bulbs changing paint color, but I just want to add that I don't understand this LED bulb craze. We ordered a chandy for our new house that came with LED bulbs. When the electrician turned the chandy I let out a scream, "Get me my sunglasses!". So horribly white and bright even with a dimmer I hated them. Switched to halogen which was so much better. In all honesty, I still prefer incandescent to anything else.

Our electrician recommended changing all of our recessed lights to LED 2700. We shall see how it looks. I have dimmers on all of my switches throughout the house.

I agree they can be very harsh. I don't know how people can live with the bright white LED Daylight bulbs. They are blinding on the roads and not very pretty as outdoor lighting either.

LED 2700K warm white is a nice light similar to incandescent. Of course they vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. I like incandescent too but since they are being phased out am very glad we won't be stuck with CFL anymore. They make everything look terrible.

You could try draping a white sheet over the cabinets to see if the pink goes away.

Thanks for the LED 2700 info. I will make a note of that. Ditto so about CFL. The builder put them in our bathrooms and they will soon be gone. Those are the bulbs that should be discontinued for good. Why are they messing around with what light bulbs we are allowed to have to begin with?
