Indigo Buntings?

new birds in my backyard today..took this pic from my kit window..zoomed in as well as I could..vivid blue color was beautiful..

nichols, if there are black and white markings on those birds, they are not indigo buntings. IBs are solid blue. But maybe I'm not seeing well.

Pat - it's the less than clear pic..the bottom bird is standing on a dried up leaf..were very blue..called Wild Birds Unlimited & they thought they were male indigo buntings..haven't had them so wasn't sure..

I am new to this birding stuff, but I will add my two bits. For the first time I had one show up in my yard about two weeks ago. Saw him on the feeder a few days after that. I have a hopper feeder with pretty much everything thrown in the mix. Fruits, nuts, berries, thistle, BOSS, all thrown in with the stuff that usually comes in the generic wild bird mix stuff. He was hanging out there the first two times I saw him, but since then all his time has been on the tray below the BOSS tube feeders. I would venture to guess the guy hanging around my yard prefers BOSS on a elevated tray. Scott

Congratulations, Dax! Such a beautiful bird, the male anyway. I once drove myself almost crazy trying to decide if some little brown birds I saw were female Indigo Buntings that arrived the same time as a bright blue male. Claire

Great picture!! S/he makes quite the contrast with the Gold Finch! I had an Indigo Bunting, once. It was the same year I had Baltimore Orioles. I haven't had either since. My parents had Indigo Buntings last year. Quite a few of them too! That's what I was going to say about the Bluebirds..go to TN. They were all around us down there, but we didn't live there long enough for me to get them onto our property.

They look like indigos to me. I just saw one here the other day. The male birds seem to be more colorful in the spring. They're trying to look extra good for the girls! :)
