Plants Grown for Seed Gathering.
Comments (17)I second that, vera. It's been fascinating learning where to *find* the seed in some of these plants! Got some cotton in a swap once, and that was a learning experience finding the seed in the cotton in the envie; I can't wait to grow it and see what it looks like on the plant! I think my fav is echinacea, for a funny reason: Not all that long ago, I used to think the prickly bits were the seed and I believe I sent that out to somebody (I think it was on another forum) as part of a swap once... the day I discovered it in fact was *not* the prickly bits was sort of an *A-HA!* day, and the synapses were formed in a positive mood so, despite the potential discomfort of harvesting those seeds (I haven't been stuck yet), I like to collect coneflower seeds - especially knowing that it's a rare seed if the finches don't get to it first. Seeing how well they held up to the freeze, I anticipate harvesting more of them - if not this year then hopefully next. :-) But yes, vera, anything is exciting... Comments (32)Nigella damascena, lol. The first time I was successful growing it I was stunned at how pretty the blooms were. They're winter growers here so I sow the seeds on Thanksgiving along with Chinese forget-me-nots, larkspur, "Alaska" nasturtiums, Lathyrus sativus(azure pea), and a few others. Most of my seeds have to be bought and planted every year since it gets too hot here for seed production of these cool weather plants. For summer I really, really love Mina lobata, it looks like stained glass to me....See MoreHELP: Lemon Plant Grown From Seed
Comments (15)Hi johnmerr, Would you happen to know any reputable grower who sells Meyer lemon cuttings? People mostly sell Meyer lemons grafted onto a different rootstock and some sell Meyer lemon trees from cutting, but I can't find anyone who sells just the bare cutting. I want to grow from a cutting because I want to grow the exact same fruit, but I want the experience of actually growing it myself and I like to watch things grow from the start. Growing from a Meyer lemon seed is unpredictable, as you have already noted, so a cutting is my best option....See MoreMy seed grown Plumeria produced flower! Can you help ID it?
Comments (8)Hi everyone! Thank you for all the responses! And a special thank you to the_first_kms2. The mother plant was pink pansy! Amazingly, the flower pictured has a very subtle grape aroma. Have any of you grown Plumeria from seed where the resulting plant was identical to its parent? Chao Anh Andre! It's very nice to meet you! I have family in San Diego and go there on occasion for visits. I am in the Fort Worth, TX area. :)...See Moreisde02(zone5b)
