I thought you had decided to stick with the Hampshire Gray.

Whenever I set about picking a paint color, I always ask myself how I want to feel when I'm in that particular room.

This is your FR. You say you want not as heavy a feel as the Hampshire Gray is giving right now. But can you describe the ambience you would like in that room? that helps a lot in picking a color.

I like neutrals for central rooms, like FRs and LRs because they tend to have a lot of furniture, decor, the patterned rugs, etc. I think neutrals are also calming because of their earthiness.

Give me some description of how you want to feel in that room, the ambience you would like to achieve.

Hi Tibbrix and thanks for posting! I have found that for so many hours during the day, the current color takes on a very muddy color. And since I'm home during the day it starts to feel like an oppressive room. I want the room to be cozy- however with my furnishings and rug being dark, combined with all of the wood in the room, Im thinking a dark wall color may not be the best choice. We painted large poster boards of the Lenox Tan and our mantel and woodpieces just kind of blended in. It seems that green seems to work best with the wood and caramel leather.

I would like something not as dark as what we have but maybe not as light as Spanish Olive?

Yeah, I'm not sure about the Spanish Olive in a north facing room. I think it could look washed out.

I found this color, though, which I think might work really well. BM Wythe Khaki

It's not nearly as saturated as the Hampshire gray, but it's warm and has enough depth to work in the north facing room. I Think it would be lovely.

I really like the color that you have posted. I'm going to get a sample jar made up and try it. I do like the fact that it's more neutral but has a green undertone to it. Thank you so much!

I don't know which fan deck. It's DC-16.

Otherwise, I might go lighter and very warm.

Also nice in that room would be a rich, sophisticated blue, with green undertones, something like what Sueb20 has in her reading room. I'm pretty sure it's Sueb20.

BM Stratton Blue

I love blues in our bedrooms but not really thinking I'd like it in the family room. I tried Carolina Gull which was pretty but thinking something more neutral will be better.

Yes, I generally like neutrals in such rooms, but SueB's library popped into my head.

I'll revisit this in the morning. I'm too sleepy now to really concentrate!

ETA: I'm with you on the BRs too. I love blue bedrooms.

Here is a monitor side-by-side of the Wythe Khaki and the Hampshire Gray, to give you an idea as to the different saturation, weight, feel, etc. Lenox Tan thrown in at the bottom to also show you the difference between it and the Khaki as far as your wood furniture goes.

Tibbrix- I went and had the store mix up the Wythe Khaki this morning along with Sag Harbor Gray. They told me that the Wythe Khaki is Clarksville Gray under a different name! And why for heavens sake do they do that- as if we aren't overwhelmed as it is! Anyway, going to paint some large samples and look at them throughout the day. Thanks so much!

I did the large samples of both of the colors I picked up this morning. Sag Harbor went so muddy as I thought it might. The Whythe Khaki was green and looked very much like my current color only lighter. So here is what I think I need to do after testing countless gray greens and sage greens that look ok at certain times and then go yuck after awhile. I am drawn to warm colors which is why the Lenox Tan appealed to me. However the green colors worked with my furniture but I was just tired of "green". So I am looking at some tans that lean greenish in the undertones. I picked up Quincy Tan and Baffin Island this afternoon late and hoping it may work in different light. What are your thoughts? And thanks again!

I think Chispa's Grant Beige is a very good suggestion if you want to try going that light.

Perhaps you should to a 180, like the Grant Beige (go that light) or if you want more saturation, go in a completely different direction.

quincy Tan is very pretty. I love browns and think they are a great neutral but with pop, i.e.: the depth, and are really underutilized and underrated.

I'm going to pull your pic and put it on my desktop and do some brainstorming.

I love the Grant Beige but I really think I want a deeper color. I am seeing that if I stay around the 40's in the lrv scale, they seem to work better. And the low light coming in the room really washes every color out.

Okay, so brace yourself. I think something along these lines would be really sharp, elegant... I think the Indian/spice colors would be gorgeous with your rug.

That is so ironic- that's my breakfast room taken several years back! But my caramel leather is the same color as the Masada so don't think it will work. Also my dining room is right next door and its Maple Leaf Red,

It does! I'm not sure what the lrv is but I imagine it's similar. Do u think something like this would look better in the room than the Quincy Tan? I do think this would be warmer.

I do! I like the vibrancy of it, and I think it would really radiate and be warm and cozy but not sleepy.

I put it next to your pic on my desktop, and I really like i with the rug and the ottoman.
