Hello cyumickey, Judging by the age you say the tree is, I wouldn't do too much cutting yet. As Bahia said, don't let branches grow from the ground or around the base of the tree, these branches will just cause you trouble in the longrun. Also, don't let branches grow onto the ground, and cut out any branches that are crossing other branches, saving the branches that most help with the general shape of the tree. Any other cutting on branches after all that cutting should be saved for general shaping of the tree...if at all (like I said, I think the tree is a bit young still). As for when to cut back a citrus tree, anytime but winter is usually fine. Finally, don't fret about not getting fruit yet. The trees are coming to age soon though, and if you can get a regular soil amendment schedule going, all the better. My two cents, Ken

Mini's are tuff little buggers! I know folks that have them outside, and have run over them with a lawnmower to prune them in the spring and they have been just fine!

Lilacs need wood that is at least 3 seasons old before they bloom, so don't expect any flowers for awhile :-)) Ken, my friend........that was not intended as a gratuitous attack but rather just a clarification of what shrubs do best with these extreme pruning measures. Not all will respond to either method as well as others. And while I admit that you tend to have a more cavalier attitude towards some gardening issues than many of us, your heart is in the right place and your advice is on the whole pretty helpful. That sounds right. You could even just leave them out and youll eventually see root growth. It sometimes takes a while though. I have some that take well over a month to show anything! Just be patient
