Question on the 1/3 rule regarding young trees
Comments (8)For Asian pears you may want to leave them for early fruit- it's not like they'll just keep growing without fruiting for a long time. You can use notching to start other branches and use these over sized branches for the time being. It is also possible just to run with oversized branches- especially if you have plenty of room for them to grow out. There are no hard rules and fruit trees are born to bear fruit. The 1/3 rule works but there's more than one way to skin a cat. However, if you want to maintain a nice central leader tree in a fairly compact space you will regret leaving over sized branches on a tree- at least I do on trees that I did this years ago and still am managing. After several years it gets very difficult to remove the things. Trees with oversized branches are inefficient if they must be kept within a limited amount of space....See Moreis there a rule for this? 1 wall, 2 distinct uses-curtains?
Comments (6)I would so love to post pictures, but frankly get lost at the terminology in the directions. someday the lightbulb will go on, I hope. meanwhile, the wallpaper is actually the nicest I've seen in an rv, thank goodness. a white and off white riff on fleur di lis is the closest I can describe it. the pattern is pretty large, the repeat is at least 4 inches, luckily it's very subtle and I quite like it. floors are light beige carpet---for now, anyway. the windows do have day/night honeycomb shades and the panels are for framing each side of the window, and to hide the holes i'll create when I remove the lambrequins. the large windows are 21inches apart from one another, and I can keep that space empty----though I am visualizing the poppy panels on the kitchen side hanging next to the solid panels on the living room side in that space. the cabs will not be in that 21" space, only under the windows, so visually there will be a break with panels hanging directly to the floor there. I want to order the valances and panels for the kitchen side today, and live with them before I order enough for the living room side, but if the dye lot is different i'll be sorry I waited--or is that overthinking it? also on that website there are a few other materials which would coordinate nicely with the poppy pattern, I'll probably use those if I don't use the poppy in the entire space....See MoreThe 2 1/2x to 3x window width rule for treatments
Comments (67)Those original lamps are now split between the kitchen lounge and the living room. I think these old lamps are passé now! I had a similar-sized chest on that side and since I had to pull it out to get the ladder in place, I tried this small table. I'd like to find a matching pair of lamps for my master since I like those others in so many places! What about these since they're the same color as my overhead fixture and rods. Modern drum shade? I'm concerned that they're too tall at 31" with shade. These are metallic in color on the base and 27" high: More bookmarked lamps to come...my web has slowed down...See MoreIs the 1/2 and 1/2 soup rule missing from the 2014 BBB???
Comments (4)It really isn't a valid comparison as they are for different situations. The BBB recipes, always considered safe and well tested, are for specific soups with very specific ingredients and prep steps as well as specific processing times. The 1/2 and 1/2 guideline isn't needed. The Soups directions from NCHFP are general guidelines one can use for making soups with their own choice of ingredients and preparation steps. In other words they are the provided guidelines for making soups that do not already have a specific tested recipe available and the 1/2 and 1/2 guideline (and the prepare vegetables, meat and seafoods as described for the specific foods in their own canning instructions guideline) is a way of insuring safe processing when using unknown, non-specific ingredients. There are potentially thousands of soup combos possible. You'd need 10 recipe books to cover all the possibilities. So for example if you wanted to make Mixed Bean, Corn, and Turkey-Ham soup and can it and no tested recipe for that specific soup exists then you may still do it using the NCHFP guidelines. The different instructions in no way makes one more or less safe than the other. One source is specific to the ingredients, the other is general for any ingredients. Dave...See More- 8 years ago
