"Could the frog be eating your fish?" Absolutely (tho' I agree with the others that there may be other reasons.) I had a huge frog last year who repeatedly ate some of my goldies (big ones too!) I first noticed a good sized goldie laying beside the pond. Was still alive so I returned it to the pond and said, "hmmmm." Next day, saw a flash of gold out of the pond. When I rounded the pond, I saw him, Mr. Frog with a goldie tail hanging out of his mouth! I chased him, but he jumped into the pond and submerged. A little later he was sitting on the edge of the pond with the goldie. Surprised me, but did keep the fish load in check!

Kirk..Are you talking about your new fish? IMO it is sometimes what they have been used to eating versus a new kind of food. My fish will eat anything, but prefer floating pellets because that is what I give them. They don't like to have to find them on the bottom. They will eat sinking pellets, if I drop them slowly. My daughters fish only will eat sinking pellets, because that is what they are used to. They seem to like scrounging around on the bottom for their food. Your new fish also need to adjust to a new invironment. You can give them cooked green peas minus the skin of the peas. Hope they start eating soon for you. Glenda

Maybe since his is sick, he is not eating. Its like you with the flu, you dont eat. I would not worrie as much to the eating as the fungus. Im sure once you clean up the fungus he will start to eat. I would try to keep the water temp with in a 2 degree range rather than the 5, do you have a heater in the 2.5g? Dont keep it by a window, you get drafts and sometimes direct sunlight, this can be bad for the overall health of the tank. Just a tip. If by chance the unfortunate happens, get your tank started before you put in the fish. That is, get the plants growing and a stable condtion. This might take from 1-4 weeks, probably the lower on the 2.5g. Good luck.

Black on a goldfish is normal only if it's a young black fish who is beginning to change to orange or some other color. Young fish are brown or black so they won't get eaten and their color usually develops later. If a fish is turning black, it usually indicates some sort of bacterial infection. The inability to swim correctly could be that he's dying from the infection or can be caused by a condition called swim bladder disease. Healthy goldfish are pretty active and easily come to the surface to eat. I would raise the temperature of the tank with an aquarium heater and add some kosher or aquarium salt (don't use table salt because it will kill him) to the tank and see if that helps, or you can treat him with one of the medications for bacterial infection you can get in the pet store. I don't think there's much you can do for swim bladder disease, but I suspect your fish's problem is bacterial. Goldfish don't usually need heated tanks, but higher temps help them recover from infection. You should also test the quality of the tank water with a kit you can get in the pet store. If ammonia is high, it will make your fish sick, so you'll need to do partial water changes to lower the ammonia. Hopefully, your fish is in a tank with aeration and a filter. Goldfish produce a lot of waste and don't live long in bowls or without filters. Fish diseases are very opportunistic and tend to show up whenever a fish is stressed, by a move, by dirty water, or from season changes for pond fish, so you didn't necessarily do anything wrong in caring for him.
